Why can't you fix it yourself anon? The monkeys they hire for these shops can't do shit but destroy
>>
>>30006747
>getting "computer fixed"
>they need login password for that
Ill never understand that. fix what? if its a hardware problem (which is the only thing I might ever give it away for to let someone else deal with, depending on what it is) they wont need your login. if its a software problem a) dont call it "fixing your computer" and b) just flatten&reinstall ffs

>take computer into shop to get it fixed

people still do this?
like what, i've only done that shit once, and I was like 13.

just better hope you don't have any loli/real girl images on it, because they're going to go through fucking all your shit.
>>
Huhh YEAH people still do this.
If one part is bad, do you have spares to swap them all and find which one it is?
Well. I guess it's usually the PSU or a HDD though and it's easy enough to tell.

Had this happen in a shop I was working. Guy in his 40s or 50s brings in his PC to get cleaned and I'm getting all the info and putting it on the sheet. Name, phone number, description of the PC, description of the problem, no password, sign off on liability stuff etc.

He leaves and I get to work on it a couple hours later when I've finished off stuff ahead of his. Login comes up asking for a password. Give him a call and say there is a password on it but he said there wasn't. Tell him the hint is "something you sit on" (i'd already tried chair and floor and whatever else so I could maybe get by without having to call him). He gets quiet and is just like "fuck... uhh, so this is gonna be weird but I SWEAR it was my friends pranking me, okay? The password is.... "bigfatcocks" okay? All one word, no capital letters." He also asked if I could remove the password after logging in so I did. I managed to mostly keep it together for the call but hung up and laughed my ass off.

I'd still had worse though. Some old creepy dude in his 70s or something would bring in his computer every 2 months filled to the brim with viruses, malware and rootkits. Every single time I'd look at his browser history and see a fuckload of gay porn sites. The last time I saw him he had brought it in blaming us for him getting viruses and that we didn't clean it out last time so he shouldn't have to pay. My boss just sat him down and went through his browser history showing him exactly how it was his fault he got all the infections. The guys face just went white and he walked out and never came back.

>do you have spares to swap them all and find which one it is?

you just replace the bad part..?

>I guess it's usually the PSU or a HDD though and it's easy enough to tell.
if you know what part needs to be replaced, why can't you just do it yourself? seriously, it's nothing like getting a car repaired, where'd you need the proper tools to even get started.

all you need to do is search the part and have a screwdriver ready..;/

Most places don't explore and try to find shit, and if they do find stuff, unless it's like blatant CP they'll just ignore it and pretend it never existed. Only time I ever ran into CP it was caused by some ransomware that downloaded it and put a bunch of pictures on the desktop when I started trying to remove it. The encrypting ransomware is pretty destructive, but the CP downloading ransomware is straight up scary as fuck. It's like "pay us $1000 or we report you to the police and destroy you life" level scary.
>>

I meant that knowing which part is bad can be difficult. But it's usually the PSU or a HDD, so often it's easy to know. A bad part can cause the computer to just not boot up at all and the only way to diagnose is to start swapping parts and try to boot. It hasn't happened to me in a while though.
>>
>>30007065
There are so many old people that have just never bothered trying to understand their technology. I've met so many that don't even know the basics.

Having to deal with the old perverts must have been fun.
>>
>>30007147
Wouldn't it be easy for authorities to tell you've been infected though? I don't see how that could work in the real world, unless of course it downloaded CP somewhere randomly on your computer, then completely removed all traces of its existence if you didn't pay the fee.
>>
>>30007147
I work at a repair place and I totally explore to find shit. I have had a guy leave an HDD with us that ended up having a fuckload of CP on it once I got it to boot right. Just like sitting there, not hidden or anything. Exploring is more a boredom thing than anything, though, for me. What else am I going to do while waiting for the different scans and such to finish?

so do you save a copy for yourself or do you just report them?

If it's the HDD, most people don't know how to recover their data well, and most shops can (or at least attempt to depending on how fucked the HDD is) recover nearly the entire drive and clone it to a new drive with minimal issue. Not many home users are going to be running ddrescue or have the knowledge to deal with data corruption from a bad drive.

As for a PSU, unless they have a spare sitting around they probably can't test it themselves, while a shop will likely have a PSU tester, or be able to swap in a replacement in under 5mins to confirm the PSU is the issue. If you go and buy a PSU and it ends up being the board that's fucked you just wasted money buying the PSU.
>>
>>30007192
you think theyd care? like, cop going through that guz's computer: "hey that guy has CP on his computer that was downloaded by a virus. and it's a lot - JACKPOT! larry go write the press release about how we caught another one of those sickos with thousands of CP images on his computer!"
>>
>>30007222
>most people don't know how to recover their data well
oh right, I forget normies that can't build computers exist.

> that's fucked you just wasted money buying the PSU.
Then you'll just have a nice backup PSU. nothing is ever wasted.
>>
>>30007192
Yeah, they can easily find out it was ransomeware, but there will still be an investigation, you will still have your PC taken away and put in evidence for months so they can search it, and crimes of a sexual nature are way more "guilty until proven innocent" than all other crimes. Someone lets slip that your computer was taken away and you are being investigates for possible possession of CP and you lose your family, you job, etc, even if you did nothing wrong and they determine you are innocent and drop charges. No one gives a fuck about the charges being dropped, they care that you were charged at all and that is proof enough that you are a pedo for life.
>>
>>30007173
Once you learn a little about a PC you can make educated guesses. Last time I had PC issues, it was affecting a lot of different things.
>both sticks of RAM coming back as bad, even after swapping slots
>CPU usage spiking and dipping
>games not running right
>CPU fan would, seemingly at random, start running really hard
So, basically, either my RAM, CPU, and possibly video card all died at once, or my motherboard was shot. Boom, problem solved.
>>30007215
I only like 2D, thanks. If I find real CP I report them. If I find 2D, I just don't care.
>>
>>30007205
If you are waiting on scans to finish you need more workstations. I was usually working on 7-10 clean up jobs at once, or 4-5 clean up jobs and a parts swap/new build on the side. Didn't have time or interest in exploring peoples' shit, and it's not like I cared about it anyways. Some guy could have the nastiest gay porn in his browser history and it doesn't faze me, everyone has their private life full of nastiness, EVERYONE.
>>
>>30007347
These scans take longer to run than it takes me to start them up. Yesterday we had three PCs that needed to be sorted out. The fuck else am I going to do while I've got two computers running memtest and one running a virus scan? I've beaten Doom and Doom 2 about 50 times on the PCs we have set up for customers' kids to use. The boss basically pays me to look at other people's porn and shoot demons.
>>
>>30007347
Anyone over the age of 40 should know how to atleast clean their shit up before taking it up a NSA shop though.

Even my 63 year old dad knows how to clean his browser history, and he barely knows how to use a phone.
>>
>>30007418
Personally, I don't even save my browser history. My "dirty laundry" is basically just a lot of h-manga and some pop songs I'd never admit to liking.
>>
>>30006747

just spell your password letter by letter you literal retard
>>
I had to text my co-worker my login a while back. My password at the time was 69yourmom

It's ironic because I was prompted to change it during my last shift but didn't cuz I'm lazy
>>
>>30006747
Are you brain dead? You should kill yourself ASAP.
>>
>>30006807
>while you're asleep NSA enters your house and puts a keyboard under your fingers
>you accidentally type your password

What does "fixing computer" mean? Maybe I am not using the computer to full potential, but I never had to fix any of the computers I ever owned. I don't even remember ever getting a virus when I am using windows.
Memes aside, what can you do wrong when using a computer normally that would require "fixing" it?
