Time you enjoyed spending is not wasted. It's simple, it's true. What, are vidya the only reason you don't hit the gym and study and collect sluts? Unlikely, playing lots of vidya is just a symptom of your mental state, not the cause.

I play DotA 2 at a high enough level that I occasionally get on the same team as a world famous player and that's always a great time. Especially when I pull my weight and we win- nothing else in my life really achieves the same level of dopamine release. I guess that's pathetic, but whatever. If you're talented, go with that, Overwatch, Dirty Bomb, CS:Gay, Starcraft (? might be dead game outside korea) etc. Very few people can make a living off of competitive, but if that is what defines not wasted time to you, you can still make some scratch as a small-timer

Otherwise try an artistic/comfy/cultured game you've never played before like STALKER or Metro. Especially classics like Half Life, Heroes 3, Planescape: Torment, etc

Even with some dumb ass, pointless shoot man game like PlanetSide 2, I don't regret playing, because it is amusing. Honestly the only games I wish I had never wasted time on were F2P MMORPGs

I'm learning spanish, so I play skyrim in Spanish. It is helping me a bit though I'm mainly picking up retarded vocabulary that I won't use in the real world. But it is quite an emersive way to learn language, plus it means I have to think a bit more while playing.
