they're both software developement. i think there are more jobs for web development than for mobile and desktop app development. i think most people start with websites and branch into mobile and desktop apps nowadays
i think it takes a while, unless you have innate talent for it. you have to first learn how to make algorithms, then become fast at it, and then learn how to make software, which usually involves stuff like knowing how to use databases and some other stuff. not trying to discourage you but you should start asap if you're really interested
