Any pet death stories? Methods for coping?

That song helped me cope

We got my two pups when I was a toddler, and they lived to be almost 18. Since they never spent a day apart, they were put down on the same day. They'd grown ill together towards the end. It's been a year and a half since they've passed, and I still miss them. I don't think I've ever cried as much as I did when my mom called me to tell me that they were gone. It doesn't get better, but it gets easier. Sometimes I have happy dreams of them, young and healthy.
I also just got a new pup a month ago, and I see a lot of the things I loved about my old friends in her. It makes it easier to look back fondly on them.
