discuss anything dream related here

as for my starting question: how to have better dreams?

I already vividly remember at least 3 dreams every single night, but they're always pretty average, taking place in the regular world in my regular life with the same people I interact with most days. Any ideas on how to improve them?

I don't know how to alter the subjective quality of your dreams, but when I took melatonin for a while it made my dreams insanely vivid. I had this one where I was at work (was a school janitor at the time) in the wee hours of the morning and my boss showed up, only he looked like a horrifying fucked up version of himself and it scared the shit out of me.

Lately I've been having dreams that rotate between three or four different made up places. And dreams where I'm describing other dreams which I actually had a few nights prior to the people in my dream. And had a few where I woke up into another dream, and then woke into another one, before waking up for real. Shit's crazy.

more than dreams in fantastic/great scenarios I'm looking for the possibility of dreaming that I am someone else other than myself. Wonder if that's possible without using any drugs. Tried B6 for a while but I only noticed an effect on how vivid I recalled them, not quality.

So far my best dreams have all involved me taking LSD in the dream. Tripping while dreaming feels exactly the same as tripping IRL, though I find this doesn't work as well with cannabis or alcohol.

I don't know. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had a dream as anyone but myself. Then again, it's not like I ever see myself in dreams or anything, so there isn't really a self.

Seconding melatonin. It always gives me vivid nightmares. Nothing too scary, just not what I would describe as "good" dreams. But even with nightmares I feel well rested the morning after taking it.

Wellbutrin gave me the most realistic and terrifying nightmares I've ever had. Woke up thrashing and screaming every night for three weeks.

I've tripped on LSD in one or two dreams too. Definitely an interesting experience.

I can make myself dream about something specific by thinking about it long and hard as I lay in bed getting ready to sleep. Try to keep thinking about it right up to the moment you nod off. Works almost every time for me. Maybe trying to put yourself in the mindset of another person, or imagining yourself looking in the mirror and seeing someone else's face will produce a dream where you're someone else.

I dream seeing my hands in front of me like I'm awake, seeing myself from the outside like an observing spirit, being an observing spirit without seeing myself appear in the dream at all, in color, in black and white, in 2D cartoon images... I watch a LOT of movies so I think my dreams mimic various film styles.

Not necessarily recommended, but getting a shitty frequently interrupted night's sleep always gives me vivid dreams, especially if it's after I've already been asleep for a while. Try setting an alarm for really early, like 4 or 5am, and a couple more for every half hour after that.
