I think it's just a preconceived idea in human psychology. I don't think the brain can entirely process all moral logic to a large extent, which would most likely cause a large belief in spirituality. Assuming that futuristic ideas don't get implemented/streamlined through humanity, this preconceived idea will stay dormant through the mind.
I think the current trend of "atheism" is almost a farce, and most of humanity will abide by a large force of belief.
