I always check my headphones to make absolutely sure the R goes in the right ear and the L goes in the left ear, despite the fact that they're basically interchangeable.

What is panning dumb-ass? You're fucking up the mix. You must not listen to much music. Even gaymes have audio panning. One of the cans on my headphones broke so I taped it back on, coincidentally I use the tape as indication of which side is which as a glance or even at the touch.
