I've been watching Naruto for some 12 years now and like a bad habit I can't stop. I think most people just judge it from the first half of the show which in honesty isnt that great, but the stuff later on is pretty good desu.

Hey OP, I have some thoughts for you.
Objectively: People enjoy stories. Naruto has a decent narrative with an interesting cast of characters. Naruto is the typical coming-of-age story set in a fantasy world, so it has a universal appeal by its archetype and more niche appeal through its setting. It is not an objectively bad form of entertainment.
Subjectively: Only a narrow-minded person would fail to see that the story is interesting. However, many people in modern society are pretty narrow-minded. People do not read anymore and all mass media pushes out is lowest common denominator stuff. The result is a populace that is unlikely to appreciate things that they haven't seen before. Imagine if Naruto was a live action show where a young man wanted to be the best bastketball player or something normie like that. Everyone would eat that shit up, with the twists the story takes over the years and the colorful cast of characters. Instead of wondering whether any friends would like you based on your interests, consider asking whether you'd like anyone who didn't have the imagination to like what you like. You sound alright OP. Enjoy the story.

It's entry level enough to not be embarrassed about. I'm a semi-norm. I watched DBZ when I was like 9-10 and no other anime since then. Took an anime course in college for the lulz. We watched like RG Veda and Chobits and Lupin Third. Full of weebs and camgirl types. The average person has probably seen at least part of Naruto by pure accident. Being embarrassed about it is laughable.
