I have substantial difficulty expressing affection of almost any kind, even if I feel it. I have to force myself to say "I love you too" talking to my parents on the phone because it just isn't in my natural persona. Messed up part is, I hug and lay affection on my pets like there's no tomorrow.
Additionally, I wouldn't be very emotionally supportive. I have a pretty zen outlook on many things and also directly avoid conflict. If she came home looking pissed or upset I would just avoid her until I could tell things were better. If she were crying? I'd get out of the house immediately and let it blow over.
