Why is it seen as cool to be jaded and apathetic these days?

Why is it seen as cool to be jaded and apathetic these days?
>>
In 4 words: Television, internet, and population explosion

If you want a serious answer I suggest you read this:
https://jsomers.net/DFW_TV.pdf
Basically details how that thing Slavoj talked about evolved into its present state by looking at technology and pop culture and stuff. Worth the read
>>
>zizek is considered cool
how did this happen?
>>
>>29939614
>le sniff meme guy is a Laibach fan
Damn, Slavoj confirmed for patrician

>>
>>29939614
it's not. you're thinking of the 90s.
>>
>>29939745
The fact that he's starring in the upcoming Star Wars movie probably helped
>>
If being jaded and apathetic is cool then I'm Miles Davis.

I think Zizek sort of suffers from this himself and this is his attempt to finally come clean about himself. I don't think he tries and feigns irony, though he does explicitly say things are not as they seem. Being raised in a Soviet satellite state will fuck you up, man. It'll make you think that everything in life is some sort of scheme on top of a scheme.

Otherwise I like Slavoj and I like his point. Though I think feigning through irony is more so a defense mechanism among our lot. We're too afraid of being called autistic or a cuck to be passionate about things we like. C'est la meme.

Shit needs to hit the fan before people see the value of working together and taking things seriously
>>
>>29939614
>>29939808
its not, its just how the world is making people, who you must see as cool?
>>
Has anyone noticed how being suicidal is more popular as well. Though I think it's more ironic like joking with the punchline being along the lines of suicide and putting yourself out of your misery

i just started reading this but it's so weird to have someone describe me so perfectly. i didn't know this was a known thing. it's funny because i used to watch so much more TV than anyone i knew. now it's all internet and i watch maybe two or three hours of TV a week. i wonder how accurate the rest of this will be or whether it's now outdated because of the internet's influence.
>>
Only idiots think being jaded and apathetic is an attractive lifestyle. There's nothing good about looking at everything and everyone and seeing shit.
>>
>I'm a Capitalist. The only rational thing to do in any situation is act completely in my own self interest, for only then can our economy prosper. By being a selfish cunt, I actually help you, Jamal. Btw, I don't tip pizza deliverers

Not him but it made me laugh a bit just with the beginning. It seems very accurate.

>I'm a Socialist, I may not have the highest paying job - or any job at all - but I think wealth ought to be redistributed. Greed is bad for the rich, but fine for the poor! Viva la Revolucion! Now excuse me, I need to charge my iPhone at this Starbucks

Is Laibach ironically fascist or actually fascist?
>>
>>29939614
>these days

It's always been like that, just look at the stoic heroes of old movies.
>>
>>29939614

Caring about things is more of a risk. It's much safer and easier to be "above it all."

I too hope for a groundswell of sincerity, though, and I think I'm feeling the first surges already.
>>
>>29940026
I think OP is referring to the extreme prevalence of today's post-irony, which was never formally recognized as a thing socially until relatively recently. Correct me if I'm wrong
>>
>>29939614

>the only way to be really subversive is...to take the system more seriously than it takes itself

noam chomsky is a perfect example of this

which is also why he's been railroaded by both the media and useful idiots for decades despite being completely sober and on-point on virtually everything relating to capitalism and us foreign policy
>>
>>29939844
its because tumblrinas glorify mental health issue and want to be able to have a label for themselves. if they REALLY did suffer from depression, they'd not be wearing it on their sleeves so much.
>>
>>29939844
Yeah, nowadays there's so many memes referencing anxiety and depression. The humor seems so cheap and forced most of the time.
>>
>>29939844
>>29940383
Normies do it ironically, robots do it post-ironically
I suspect that it's a particularly American thing since the rest of the world (scandis, Slavs, and east asians in particular) don't have 24/7 happiness as a cultural norm

>Probably, we will never be able to determine the psychic havoc of the concentration camps and the atom bomb upon the unconscious mind of almost everyone alive in these years. For the first time in civilized history, perhaps for the first time in all of history, we have been forced to live with the suppressed knowledge that the smallest facets of our personality or the most minor projection of our ideas, or indeed the absence of ideas and the absence of personality could mean equally well that we might still be doomed to die as a cipher in some vast statistical operation in which our teeth would he counted, and our hair would be saved, but our death itself would be unknown, unhonored, and unremarked, a death which could not follow with dignity as a possible consequence to serious actions we had chosen, but rather a death bydeus ex machinain a gas chamber or a radioactive city; and so if in the midst of civilization-that civilization founded upon the Faustian urge to dominate nature by mastering time, mastering the links of social cause and effect-in the middle of an economic civilization founded upon the confidence that time could indeed he subjected to our will, our psyche was subjected itself to the intolerable anxiety that death being causeless, life was causeless as well, and time deprived of cause and effect had come to a stop.
>>
>>29940587
>The Second World War presented a mirror to the human condition which blinded anyone who looked into it. For if tens of millions were killed in concentration camps out of the inexorable agonies and contractions of super-states founded upon the always insoluble contradictions of injustice, one was then obliged also to see that no matter how crippled and perverted an image of man was the society he had created, it wits nonetheless his creation, his collective creation (at least his collective creation from the past) and if society was so murderous, then who could ignore the most hideous of questions about his own nature?
>>
>>29940587
>>29940610
this is fucking depressing

(i bet i'm original)
>>
>>29939889
Never have I read something that described me so accurately
>>
>>29939889
shit dude where is this from? i'd definitely wanna check the rest of that shit out of that.
>>
>>29941897
>>29939889
nevermind im retarded as shit
>>
It's seen as cool on a superficial level, but if you let on that you're actually jaded and apathetic people find it upsetting, because it reminds them that these issues which they treat casually are concurrently destroying people.
