ITT: Post comfy / nostalgic games from childhood
This game I found a while ago is super comfy. It's called Starbound. You can explore different planets around different galaxies, talk with alien species, even find outer civilizations made of you own species. It's really fun and I would recommend to anyone who is interested in sandbox games.

it becomes very repetitive after a short time. Planets are the same thing rehashed, no interesting combat mechanics, creative potential is there but it's not great

Yeah, I play oldschool runescape and it's so efficiency focused now. Community isn't social like it used to be. Maplestory went the same way. Both feel like solo games now instead of MMOs

I played around 2006 or 2007. Me and my brother would always be trying to out level each other and whatnot. Really strong feels for that game. Sometimes I go listen to all the music on YouTube and feel like crying.

Terraria is a bigger single world, while in starbound there is a near infinite amout of worlds to visit, species to meet, more weapons types of blocks, etc. It is objectively better.

It was amazing, until they started adding a shit ton of items into the game, that made it into a spammy mess.
If you want to play Terraria, don't play past the update that introduced "hallow".
Starbound is a bit more organized, but it still has too many shit items, and it just bleh.

Are you kidding? Terraria has structured progression with involving bosses that have unique mechanics, items and item sets that do wonderful things, events that change the world in meaningful ways, interspersal of biomes and zones instead of <biome planet> with somrtimes randomly places buildings and fashion.
Starboard has grinding for gear that let's you shoot for longer and take bigger hits, and you make it out of the same stuff you use to make the thing that let's you spawn the tier boss which is usually a big health bar punching bag

I'm not entirely sure about building a colony, although within the next week and a half they are adding a shit ton of stuff since it is finally being "finished" enough to call it the 1.0. You can definitely build bases like the picture shows, but you can research about building colonies with interactive NPCs, I'm not sure desu

Does this have some planets that are naturally inhospitable and you have to terraform them or is it all good. I really want to do a one man mission to terraform a planet.

Yes, not all planets are habitable right off the bat. In fact, most of them either have extreme temperatures that you need equipment to survive, some no oxygen, so you need an oxygen tank etc. Another problem is that distant planets will have enemies that will one shot you and won't take damage until you get better armor and weapons over the course of your character.

Starbound sucks dick even on its own merits and only looks worse when compared to Terraria.
This game is a perfect run and gun. Fast paced levels, tons of secrets and lots of robots to asplode.

Here is a picture of what a spaceship looks like in the beginning of the game. You can fix it, upgrade it, and change the color, make new rooms etc. But when you fly it around it is automatic. You choose where to go and it takes you there, there isn't really such thing as empty space.

Yes you can upgrade it, but it's more of a hub that changes its background occasionally than a ship you control
