Shrek got it, the whole point of the movie was that she's wrong.

He was a good person, he just got burned by the life of everyone running in fear. Just like donkey, who was annoying as fuck but was a total bro. They were both caustic and imperfect, and thats why the series worked.
Fiona being an ogre was just a metaphor for other people having imperfections too.
Thats not robots. Robots are incurable, mad, resent the world and do things like go sleep with the corpse of their oneitis like the Quasimodo from the books did.
