I'm an oldfag for this board, but I come here because before 4chan was even a twinkle in Moot's eye I was a robot. I remember getting bullied pretty hard in high school, having no friends, hating my life, thinking about suicide, etc. I even remember getting bullied as a senior in high school by some sophomores and going home thinking about the best way to kill myself.

It's been a long road to where I am now. I won't sit here and tell you I'm some sort of success story, but I worked hard, got over a lot of stuff and feel like I'm in a really good place. I come here because you'll always be a robot even when you put on the normie mask. I also on occasion try to drop a little bit of encouragement hoping other robots know they can feel a little better about the world if they want to.

It was alright, I was working nights so I didn't really have to interact with anyone. If you suffer with back pain I would suggest wearing a back brace as you will be on your feet all the time lifting heavy boxes.

Also this. Just fill in your time with a made up company. Say you worked on a building site or something. Ask your parents if they would be willing to fake a reference for you, just let them know that it will help you get a job. That's the first hurdle, at least then you will be able to build some experience.

jelly as fuck. My mom talked me out of joining the Air force unless I went in as an officer. Now I gained the "freshmen 20", super unfit/out of shape and I fucked up college and have to transfer to another school for a better gpa.

I'd have to wait until I at least get my AAS in Electrical Engineering(1 year) and at that point I'd be 22. Wouldn't get out of the USAF until 26 and have to wait until 28 to get my BS. Or just go into getting my BS and at that point just finding work.

Weird situation.

Yeah okay, stop exaggerating. You don't LITERALLY spend from 8am to 6pm studying, you're probably fucking around for a good 5-6 hours of that time. Also, residents and fellows get paid "real wages," at least compared to the general populace.

Bachelors

I come here because I feel like I'm just the same as you guys, just with money.

I don't go out. I hate social situations.

Cannot get girls. 50% of girls are automatically turned off due to job. 50% are turned off due to me being overweight. I also work night shift which would make it hard to socialize in general (although I don't like to)

And my high school friends that I cut contact with have all become chads

Have any advice for incoming nursing students?
>>
>>29869085
Incoming as in you haven't started nursing school yet? Are you a girl or a guy?

Either way, good thing you come here because your social life will be non-existant (espeically if you are doing volunteer work or whatever else to increase chances of getting hired where you want right after graduation)

Although if you come here, you may have to up your social skills. Nursing is all about social skills.
>>
>>29869163
>Are you a girl or a guy?
Why does it matter?

Did you have trouble balancing school and everything else? There's so much I want to do though. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind, thanks!
>>
>>29869315
No one wants to be a murse
>>
>>29869315
It matters a lot, some advice is specific for a guy going into a female dominated profession. People, professors will treat you differently. I have talked to people across my state about it, and all guys have had similar experiences to me.

My philosophy is that you should view school as a full time job. That means you should be spending 40 hours of your week either in class, doing homework, or studying. A lot of people in my first year dropped out because the teachers made you do a lot of the reading on your own. I worked part time and went to school. I also volunteered at the hospital that I work at now to get my foot in the door. That took up pretty much all of my time. Your mileage may vary.

Know any EMTs? How hard is it to become one?
I'm a college grad (lib arts shit degree)

I've heard it isn't too hard, just a long process. They work just as hard as we do (nurses) in my opinion but get paid like 25% that we do.

Kek, no one wants to fuck the beta murse, when there are alpha doctors in the same vicinity.

What are some of the experiences you're describing?
Thanks for the advice, I'll try to stay out of my dorm room as much as possible. Were you able to get a hospital job?
>>
>>29869402
>>29869567
Sorry I think my last question ws too vague. I meant do you know how you could possibly get paid experience working at a hospital as an undergrad?
>>
>>29869566
the nurse doctor thing doesn't happen nearly as often as you'd think it does, at least not in today's world

it does happen, just infrequently

Loneliness in male dominated field, never had gf, never had first kiss. Can't relate much, but moreso than anywhere else on the internet.
>>
>>29869567
Prime example any male nursing student experiences: shunning through the labor and delivery portion of your education. It will either be: The staff, the patient, or the patient's husband. Sometimes it gets pretty bad.

To your other question. I was an ER scribe prior to graduating which gave me a foot in the door in the hospital. Some people are CNA (certified nursing assistants) while they go through school.

A CNA only takes about 6 months to complete and helps the nurses out on the floor in the hospital.

Some people were patient sitters or worked transport.

I got the job as a scribe because I volunteered in the hospital cafeteria prior. It opened up a lot of doors and I got to know the hiring managers when it came time for me to get my RN license.

It never crossed my mind that that would be an issue. I had the chance to talk to many male nurses over the summer and they all described being a male nurse as the best thing ever, although my uni is in a super liberal area.
I'll definitely volunteer at a hospital! I've always intended to but I didn't think about the networking aspect of it. Although that also means I need to work on my social skills.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I wanted to be a male nurse for 3 reasons

1. The money. I live in Sacramento and starting pay is very good.

2. I thought I'd be able to meet girls. All the girls in my cohort were married or taken.

3. I thought it would help me with my social skills - which it has

You live in Sacramento? You're what I want to be and where I want to live in four years.
That's strange, when I went to orientation there were a surprisingly large amount of girls that have never had a boyfriend before.

What state? Some hospitals really love if you join the student nurse associations. In my interview I went full autistic and talked about the work I did in my committee because I was nervous

To make myself feel better than people. I don't have a lot of motivation. I can socialize pretty easily but I just don't like to put in the effort. Seeing people worse off than me, even if a lot of it is satirical, helps me paint my life as better than it actually is. Plus /pol/ is interesting and /a/ is the only place I can talk about anime, even if their love of moeshit is a bit overwhelming
>>
>>29870755
Depends on the state. I am not too familiar with michigan's. I am close friends with many of the east coast and west coast SNA board members though (I served on the national board a year ago)
>>
>>29870791
I'll look into it in the fall. Well what'd you do in the SNA during your undergrad? Was it a super high commitment thing?
>>
>>29870854
Helped organize and participate in SNA led community events. I would recommend going to the conventions though. They have nursing recruiters there that you should talk to. At my university, it meant I had to put in about 10 hours a week, but only because the president was a girl I really liked and wanted to impress her and raise our SNA off the ground.
Every SNA is different and it depends on who the officers are running it that year.

When I served on the national SNA board, I spent a lot of time helping other schools get their SNA's off the ground, as well as go through resolutions and approve them to be discussed at our house of delegates

If I were you I would get involved at least. At the very least it is something to put on your resume. You can talk about joining a nursing professional organization to help further nursing as a profession (many times the resolutions passed by students get carried through the American nurses association) etc etc
>>
>>29870935
>the president was a girl I really liked and wanted to impress her
Just lol

That sounds similar to something I did during high school and I'm not quite sure if I want to commit to that just yet. I'll still join and try to go to conventions and talk to recruiters though!
You have so much good advice, really thanks a lot. Are you ever planning on getting a dnp?
>>
>>29871031
Yes. I need another year experience before I can apply, but I have already been talking to recruiters at UCSF DNP program and hopefully have made a good impression.

I really enjoyed my time on the board helping other people. Although I dont like posting my info on r9k, ill give you my throwaway: [email protected]

Message me on there.

How the fuck did you finish a JD that fast m8, I'm gonna be a 22 year old 1L at Loyola this August and half the people I've met in my class are already in their mid-30's or older.

also do you know anyone looking for a housemate finding a place in LA is hell
>>
>>29871132
Neat, just sent you an email!
>>
>>29871152
I skipped first grade and did undergrad in 3 years, then didn't take any time off before going to law school.
And yeah LA blows pretty hard housing-wise. The people I know live in Westwood and you probably wanna be a bit closer to campus if you're going to Loyola
