Passage of time is more depressing for old guys like me. In 2009 I was fucking 24. I didn't find 4chan for another 2 years because I had something resembling a life though.

2009 was the last year before everything went to shit

I remember liking the internet.

I remember stumbling upon cool forums filled with people from around the world who had different opinions and were free from fear because their real names weren't plastered all over everything.

I remember being able to fuck with data mining hardcore as a trivial thing.

I remember when porn sites required credit card information to "prove you were 18" and then ripped you off hard with subscription fees you never agreed to.

I remember lusting after a chick those two years, and then getting a blowjob from her as a graduation present. I also remember looking her up in college and noping out when I found out she was into pegging dudes.

I remember waiting all fucking night and day for an album to finish downloading.

I remember fights over whether the phone or the internet were more important at that moment.

I remember network television, and how much it sucked. I also remember watching a lot of flash animation, because at least it fucking *tried*.

I remember IRC. God, I miss some of those folks. No one gets out of life alive, but I hope they got out of the shitty parts intact.

I remember getting search results that actually surprised me.

I remember Geocities and Angelfire and Keenspot.

I remember fan shrines for games, instead of wikias.

I remember liking the internet. I don't think I really do, anymore. I just come to 4chan and torrent shit and miss the old communities that I was a part of. I miss psuedonymity being the norm.

I guess I mostly miss the secret club, before your fucking grandmother got on Facebook.

For some reason I miss the emo scene, I wasn't an emo myself, but meeting them was always nice.
Such a different atmosphere back then.

What is it about 2007 that makes it such a great and memorable year?

I could have put $2000 in bitcoin
>>

Probably has something to do with that being the end of good television, videogames, smartphones and social media becoming commonplace, and then the economy shat itself and nobody anywhere recovered.

Social culture in general stagnated after that point, the year itself was fine but it marked the end of those comfy early-mid 2000s.
>>
>>29864956
By 2009 it was far too late. 07 was the cutoff point.
>>
If I could be 16 again with the knowledge I have now. Things could have been so much different.

$1000 on Amazon would have made you much richer. Or you could have found the guys who invented Twitter a year later and offered to invest.
>>
2005 - 2009 were probably the worst and most wasted years of my life.

Glad it's 2016 tbqfh.
>>
>>29865405
Last year where social media/smartphones held little relevance, social interaction and relationships were still somewhat normal, and the economy was semi-functional.

this

i remember seeing this girl with an iphone. i was like "oh wow, that's that... iphone... thing."

i was in college when the iphone came out. communication has absolutely 100% gotten worse.

It feels this way, but how so?

>tfw 2006 and 2007 were the years I was most happy
why won't they come back?
>>
>>29864694
2009 was literally the peak of my life so far. Year 10 of high school. One of the most popular kids in my year, full of confidence, parties every week, good grades and pissseasy work
>>

imagine being an extroverted person
you're COMPELLED to interact with others
directly, as well as indirectly (photos, online eavesdropping convos, etc)
you're ADDICTED to it
and now you have technology to feed that addiction any time
to pry into people's lives
what music do they like, what brands do they wear, what political ideologies do they support

i'm an introverted robot. so my opinion is my opinion. but normies notice it among each other too. any conversation feels like it's being taped, or it's being watched by 200 spectators. because the people talking are going to post about it online in 5 minutes. and no one's happy about it.

it was good but the friendships were honestly pretty shallow.
that is basically me now. self awareness kicked in, which become anxiety, which led to low self-esteem

fuck 2006/2007 were so good.

> freshman and sophmore in college

> kickass razr phone

> facebook was actually good and defined by your school, people posted shit that was directly meaningful to your life, and no one cared if partying pictures ended up online

> people weren't on their goddamn phones 24/7

> if you listened to 'EDM' you were a fag

It's 2016, what the fuck. How did I get in here? What the fuck, it's like 2000 plus 10 plus 6, why in hell.

Stop thinking for a moment and remember how far you though it was and now it is when you looked at a calendar. Time is a weird mistress.
