That's my belief. They can act as "triggers" of sort, but it was all planned out by cabals behind them. They might be aware of it or not. But if they had failed to play their part, someone else would have done it. Or a new plan would have been developed.
In my lifetime I will prove objectively that life is bad (at least bad in the sense heroin is bad) within a wholly rational framework and that therefore procreation is the most inquitous act. All they will need to do is listen. I already have the foundation down.

I would say "shape" rather than "change'. Subtle distinction.
But clearly yes, people do shape the future. Even people who never become famous still did things that are affecting us right now, even if we don't know who those people were or what they did. It's the butterfly effect.
