Pretty boring job, I work by myself 7/8 of the time. The pay is 12,50 an hour when states minimum is 7.25. Probably only got the job because I had an utterly clean background check, and on deans list at uni. I guess there is cosmic justice in the world. Can even make money on the side at the job by reissuing tickets if the lot is doing good for the night. The breakeven point on the lot is about 1700 for the weekend+friday. We did probably all of that today already, so the garage works at pure profit levels.

I work on a large system with a handful of other developers. I'm assigned tasks to complete by BA's and the other developers. Once the code is finished it is reviewed by other devs and the task moves to testing. I also review their code and do support (deployments, going through logs to figure out why something broke, fixing the system when it crashes, or bouncing the work to someone who knows how.)

This depends. There's re-usable patterns that solve most problems. After a while most tasks become routine. There is the occasional complicated problem. Sometimes finding the right solution takes a few hours. I usually get out a pen and paper and try to visualize the problem.

If you go the degree route you will have to be competent at university level math. Aside from that this is an extremely accessible field because almost all of the tools are free and there is plenty of learning material online. Anyone can simply "start programming" and see whether they like it or not.

Find a community full of betas, like a korean MMO or a popular free game, get into a big group, and go from there.
