I used to smoke and switched to vaping a couple years ago. I'm not one of those vaping fanatics, I got a cheap little vape that works fine for me.
I stopped getting colds as often, my throat feels better, I breathe better, I stopped having to go outside when it's freezing or raining, stopped getting ash all over the place. Basically if you don't want to drop nicotine but want to stop smoking I'd switch over to vaping. I still get nicotine cravings but they are less severe.
Vapes look kind of goofy but they are becoming more common so it's not like people are surprised when they see one.
I know when people would tell me to stop smoking I would get very annoyed, smokers already know they are doing something unhealthy and basically deadly. I'm not going to lecture anyone but I really do recommend switching, you will feel tons better. It really does improve your quality of life.

It's funny, when I started smoking, that was my 5-minute routine to de-stress. No matter what was going on, I could go outside and have a few minutes to myself, to sort out my thoughts over a nicotine buzz.
But after a while you actually wind up more stressed. I think the additional MAOI's in tobacco increases the addiction potential (correct me if I'm wrong,) and that's why cravings are more intense when you're a cigarette smoker, as opposed to using gum or vaping. So you're managing these cravings all the time. Then the side effects eventually surface, I started getting respiratory infections, my throat was harsh, I couldn't breathe as deeply, I would get mouth sores. And you always have on the back of your mind the thought that, the shit is loaded with additives and is really fucking bad for you.
That's why I suggest you guys switch to vaping. Quitting nicotine altogether is probably ideal, but that is really hard for some people. You can make this one very easy switch though, and you will start to feel better in a few weeks. And you'll also be safer in the long run.
I don't mean to lecture, I know hearing the anti-smoking lecture was a sure-fire way to piss me off back when I was smoking. I really think this is a no-brainer though, you will save money and feel better, and you can still have your nicotine breaks.

My nicotine delivery device of choice is the dissolving lozenges. They're not expensive, there's no smoke in the lungs or mouth (huge carcinogen quantity averted this way) and they're discreet.
So much better than smoking, or even vaping (since vapor still goes into your lungs and might irritate them--although sure, it's fun to vape compared to letting a lozenge dissolve in your mouth. But functionally the nicotine in a lozenge is just as good as the nicotine from tobacco or a vape--though the lozenges don't have MAOIs, just straight nicotine, binders, and mint flavor).

So, I personally don't care if people smoke, I've never told anyone to stop smoking (in person at least.) I remember how annoying that conversation was. The only reason I decided to post in this thread, is because I was actually surprised how much better I felt after I started using the vape instead of smoking. It was a pretty remarkable difference.
I feel like a lot of people who smoke, simply haven't tried vaping for whatever reason. It's not the 50's anymore, you actually have a lot of ways to get your nicotine fix that are safer (and cheaper) than smoking. I don't hold grudges against smokers, but anyone who is one should check it out. It's a pretty cool little invention, and you really will feel better. I didn't try one until a friend showed me one, I wish I had known about them earlier.
