Anyone using meditation to stop feeling lonely? Does it work? How much do you meditate?
>>
Meditating is for women and gays
I lift the feels away
>>
>>29830437
I try to do that but too lazy, meditation rules with mj or shrooms or any other psychedelics though.
>>
You're supposed to meditate to meditate, not to feel less lonely. It ain't a miracle cure, it's just something you do. Loneliness is cured by having friends.

It does help you a lot. Maybe not strictly with loneliness but it changes you to the better. I set a strict every day morning, evening meditation and a 2 months in I can feel the difference. Loneliness isn't only solved by having friends as the other anon said. You can become comfortable with your own thoughts which is one of the main reasons we hate to be alone. you'll stop dwelling on your emotions in general
Also I can slowly get to my meditative state of mind whenever I feel off.
When I take a walk for example I would normally start to think about all this shit that weights me down, now I let these thing to just flow through my mind without affecting me horribly.
It is definitely worth a try, more so if you are so desperate.
It will allow you to live a better life.
i personally became interested in buddhism but you can just search mindfullnes meditation and it will help you even though I would recommend to check buddhism out
>>
I meditate to control my thoughts because fuck them. It's the only part of my life that I control desu.
>>
I tried meditation for a while. It was good, but I'm completely incompetent at maintaining a routine so it fell apart like everything I try.

OP, take up meditation.
Go to the gym every single day.
Play racquetball every day in winter (bright lights keep you from getting seasonal affective disorder).
Try to smile sometimes even though it hurts to do so.
Get a bicycle.

But doesn't it feel like you're doing yourself a disservice? It's basically ignoring your problems.

your breathing shouldn't change. this is an awareness exercise, you watch the breath and posture, no matter how it is, you dont try and change the breath, or relaxe, or do anything different. you just pay attention

it does take effort tho
>>
>>29831023
OP don't listen to this shit. just drink an try to do stuff that seems cool

It really does. I recently came across the four noble truths and forced myself to be detached from lust by understanding that the the female body is subject to impermanence. Now when I see any pornographic image, or even scantily clad women even when im out, I am no longer interested. It is really amazing. I'm now forcing myself to release all attachments to the ego, and doing breath meditation to enter the first jhana.

I've recently realized that mindfulness meditation is able to make a person more aware and conscious of his body-mind state, and actually force him to awaken to impermanence of the sense-desires. By understanding the arise and cessation of the thoughts from body-mind contact, we can see past lust, as well as unwholesome desires . You also begin to detach your consciousness from your body-mind, which is weird, because it seems like you are viewing yourself from a third perspective. I am presently trying to enter the first jhana, but i don't think i am capable of fully releasing myself from the bondage of the ego-self.

Pretty much this
It might give you resolve and might lead to you taking steps to fix your life but it can fill empty wholes
There's a reason most people that use meditation and yoga as a fix all go fucking crazy
>>
>>29831288
Crazy like how?
>>
>>29831336
Don't listen to that guy, he's full of shit. You can go crazy because of drugs, not meditation.
>>
>>29831254
Observing pornographic imagery for what it is, without jacking off does change your perception of it. The process of seeing things more for what they actually are is neat, independent of meditation.
>>
>>29831599
Mindfulness meditation really does help though. When you begin to see that every pleasure that arises is due to contact with the mind-body, it is difficult to get attached to it. Similar as for the thought of lust arises, you recognize it for what it is and understand it is part of the body's craving. By understanding it and not averting it nor encouraging it, the attachment to it fades and the thought ceases.

Except it's been proven that meditation in combination with exercise helps with depression. Meditation is basically exercise for your mind you shitter

You dont understand what meditation actually is. Its not trying to "stop thhoughts" or to relieve stress, its much deeper than that. When you meditate you slowly uncover the unconscious asoects of your mind and bring thhem to thhe surface. Have you ever felt that melancholy that seems to arise from nowhere? Are you depressed but cant even pinpoint the source? Well thhis is where meditation can help you find answers my friend. Once you reach the state where you know where your problems lie you can begin to come to terms with it. This is how you can gain contentment and no longer feel some longing for something you wish you had because you think it will bring you happiness.

True happiness doesnt come from external sources; the happiness those things bring are always temporary and once theyre gone you go back into discontentment. Meditate to know yourself and to find the truth to happiness.

In thhe beginning meditation may seem hard or boring, but if you do a little every day and slowly build up, the joys of meditation will reveal itself to you and will gain its own momentum to where you no longer dread the time for meditation, but look forward to it.

Just give it a try, 10 min a day then slowly build up. See what can happen for yourself

Do you have the nimitta? Because you dont just jump into jhana through will power. You build up to it through anapanasati, unless your trying to enter jhana through meta meditation.

I know what my problems are, people aren't that special. I also know what I'd have to do to fix them. But I wont so I wont. Robotlyfe.
>>
>>29831040
I see what you mean but it really isn't like that, you just aknowledge your problems and don't dwell on them. You analyse them without being blinded by emotions and those without solutions (like being a manlet) and you don't think about them. It doesn't mean you will ignore the real problems. Worrying about your tommorows appointments the night before isn't helpful at all. Meditation actually helped me get shit done. You won't start complaining in you head that you are too lazy or you just do what you know you should do. You should study for an important test so normally I would become anxious and lazy and would procrastinate the whole day but know I can put these emotions aside and just do it. Or I won't study and in the night when I would normally feel super awful and worried and couldn't get any sleep. But now I just realize that worrying wont solve anything and say to myself that I would have to learn tommorow without crippling anxiety.
You will be the exact same person and do or not do just not flooded with emotions that block you.

>>29831040
You usually gor for a walk to relax and ease your mind. You don't go for a walk to solve your problems, you can do that when you come home. Most people have huge difficulty to relax. Meditation helped me to differentiate the problems I can solve and problems I cannot solve and to analyse them rationally.

>>29831254
Totally good luck with entering the first Jhana, it is very difficult to attain it by yourself and sangha, let it be a teacher or a meditarion center help you with that a lot.

Can you guys meditate all day long? What happens if I were to do that?
>>
I reached a state of meditation that was substantially better than my prior experience. Usually it's tedious and boring, my mind starts to wander, I stop paying attention to my breath, and I start to slouch. Instead this time I felt locked in. I was consciously maintaining my posture, aware of my thoughts, and focused on my breath. I could feel my pulse and the structure of my body. It was actually quite pleasurable. Is that an ideal state to pursue, or just another distraction?
