Try tapping z and x instead of clicking.
Whenever you click, you move the mouse slightly, which can throw you off on long streams.
Additionally, turn on NoFail in the mods menu and try playing songs ~1 star higher than what you can normally play, you'll be surprised what you can accomplish.
Finally, do not play any map made before 2012.
Standards were much lower back then and some genuinely unplayable garbage got into the game.
If I were to open a multiplayer lobby for comfy 2-3 star songs, would anybody be interested?

multiplayer to me has always been more about finding new maps than improving or competing
Also, try looking up jump/stream practice maps to improve agility/stamina respectively.
Most are unrnked, so don't be afraid to use NF/HT on them.

iirc, they changed star ranking a few years back to reflect beatmaps getting harder in general
