I did this nonsense for months when playing ingress, i was buying the weights anyway. Most people don't bother you and if they ask why you're exercising at weird hours have some event in mind and tell them you're training for that. Ingress paired up with GoRuck which usually happens at night so it's the perfect cover. People will leave you alone or get excited that you're doing something productive.
