There is very few worthy anime. Generally moeshit and escapism is what 90% of anime about.
Started watching anime when I was 13, stopped when I was 21. Either my tastes changed or the quality of anime changed, because at that point there was only one or two shows per year I liked.
When I got out of high school basically. I can't help but feel a lot of anime these days feel too juvenile and shallow for my tastes. I wish I could find simple joy and happiness in it like many weebs do.

Umaru-chan - loved it
Sword Art Online - wasn't bad but the fucking ending -killing a loli out of nowhere with terminal illnessI got enough of that shit at home - made me swear (again) not to watch anything remotely serious (again)
Prison School - loved it
Highschool DxD - meh, but the girls were cute
Ore Monogatari - loved it at the start however I got bored at the end

I also stopped at 18. I dropped over 100 series and finished about 25. I usually got my recommendations online, and quit finding shows that were good relatively quickly.
ive stopped watching it as ive had, because the anime is the same every year its either shitty cliche action
some shitty comedy, in saying that though swagamoto was pretty funny,

Problem with anime is that the market is dominated by moeshit and they are mostly garbage. I watch JoJo (only because of the manga), LotGH and Initial D and I'm still considered an anime fag by my friends.

Anime has lost a lot of spark for me but I believe that's because I work a lot.
Plus I'm at almost 450 shows watched and at this point most shows feel cliche and the cookie cutter aspects of anime pisses me off.
But sometimes I'll find those shows that are just split off from the rest of the anime world and I turn into a kid again and enjoy the fuck out of it.
It' getting rarer and rarer for that to occur though.
I can't imagine how some people make it to seeing 1,500+ shows. There's just not that many good shows to get that deep.

I really like the sound direction in older animes. The music and the voices have something that todays anime lacks. Also the visuals have their own charm imo.

Watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I think "sophisticated" is the right word. No unnecessary violance or sex or anything. When there is gore, it's meaningful and shocking.

I really hate the style thats been adopted in recent years, how everything is lazy CGI with little to no shading. I think the closest thing to a "modern" animes I've watched and enjoyed was Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig.

The subject material just became shit. There are VERY rare exceptions that I'll watch (GuP, Upotte!, Monster Musume) but for the most part, it seems like anime is for men who play with barbies.

I frequently switch up genres and work on shit off my backlog. This season in particular is a good backlog season where I watch maybe 4 shows airing and the rest is backlog. I say a good backlog season because the fujishit is off the charts.
