>want to try building a business
>fairly decent with computers
>live in FL so there's a shitload of technologically-inept old fucks hanging around
>figure I could cater to them
Is there any downside to this, bots?

Why would they go to you when they can take their computer to one of the big companies who will do it cheaper and quicker. They also have a pre-established reputation and have marketing.
What are you going to do? Rent a shop, fill it with computer equipment and hope people bring their things to you? Why would they trust you with their stuff?
Bump for curiosity.
Also, my comment was unoriginal. Fuck the robot.

Actually, I was thinking that I could just drive to their place and troubleshoot from there. Saves them the hassle and they can trust that I'm not doing anything shady
Also, I'm white, so they know job will get done quickly and not come back smelling like curry or some shit

How are they going to contact you with their problem in the first place? And you're expecting them to trust letting you into their house?

I'd have a business cell phone. Probably something cheap like a Tracfone or something, but it'd let them contact me.
I could advertise around retirement homes!
don't listen to this inept fuck, you can do it. just post on craigslist and people will ask you for jobs. leave business cards so people will call you again. good luck my brobot

Thanks, bud. I appreciate the vote of confidence. Hopefully this gives me a chance to be more social. I'm okay in one-to-one conversations, but I still get a little uneasy in crowds.
I have a business partner who sells printers, printer ink, and ink systems.
He has old people constantly come over to fix their shit. It's a good idea but business will be slow and if you need to make a delivery the store will be closed unless you hire a m8 to watch it for you. I would suggest have an insurance business share the same place as you and split the rent and they would watch the store for you and make sales.
Business will be slow so be prepared. Good luck anon.

>Business will be slow
That could actually be a fairly good thing for me, considering that I'm a full-time student with a part-time job already. I just think it'd be interesting to try out my skills in a way that could earn me money.

Sounds pretty low risk- your only cost will be the phone. I say go for it. Hustle hard and advertise and I bet you'll eventually find your groove and do really well.
It would also be nice if you could establish recurring clients. Like a solo prac lawyer who will call you every time there's a tech issue. Stuff like that would be your bread and butter.

Good idea. I don't imagine I could offer some sort of exclusivity to anyone until I've actually established a reputation somehow. I'm a patient person though, this may be worth it.
