How old were you when metal lost its appeal?
>>29794625
18, the same age I outgrew indie music.
About 23
Tried to get back into metal, but I just can't.
Never thought I would be one of those faggots who actually made a post like this.
I liked Metalocalypse, so I tried getting into metal, but real metal is kinda bad. I know how bad it sounds, but I think if I am gonna get back into it at all I'll stick with scandinavian/mexican bands because some of this shit is ridiculous.
I never liked it to begin with.
It hasn't yet art 24, I still like the instrumentals and emotions
>>29794625
metal bands are like black girls, most of them are garbage, but the ones that aren't are really fucking excellent.
go listen to Animals as Leaders and tell me that metal is trash as a genre.
24 and still listen. Not exclusively anymore, but I still keep it around. Anyone disappointed by parkway drive's new album?
I was 17 when I lost interest in most metal, but I still love Dragonforce. They will never get old to me.
I still love metal, but I've moved on from the edgy grindcore shit of my youth. 80s metal is where its at. Judas priest, iron maiden, etc.
>2016
>not listening to stoner meal
>doesn't take itself seriously
>nothing but heavy jams and hooks
about 18, now I really don't listen to it any more, used to love Dream Theater so freaking much
started to really get into it recently actually, I'm 21
honestly not listening to music simply because it's not socially acceptable and/or seen as weird is failed normie tier. like what you like, believe me no one's going to befriend you just because you're into indie and hip hop
>>29794625
13 or 14. 19 now
>>29794625
16, metal is pretty boring desu.
I still have long hair though. I've had long hair since I was 10 now I'm 23. I'm terrified of cutting it all off. Lately it's been shoulder length, before it was really long.
>>29794625
still listen a lot to metal but at 18 i realised that it has a shit community so i'm not really "identifying" with it anymore.
I grew out of linkin park at age 16
I grew out of metal at age 0
I'm 30 and I still listen to metal and rap. Fight me.
I only listen to music via Youtube, so I kind of just listen to a little bit of all genres.
>>29795015
What you said is true, however wearing metal shirts, long hair
accessories etc. Will
definitely not appeal to normies, and will put off alot of people from getting to know you. And as Law 38 says "Think as you like, but behave like others".
I still listen to metal but I'm just not an elitist faggot about it anymore nor do I still consider it my identity.
>>29794625
I listen to Metal, but everything around the music is cringe as fuck, and it's hard to find good new Metal now.
>>29794814
>Animals as Leaders
>an example of good metal
Holy shit you must be a 14 year old nigger. I refuse to believe that someone who actually has deep knowledge of the Metal genre posted this unironically.
If anything I've become more involved with "real" metal then when I was a kid (not listening to Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, etc). I now listen to a ton of other music which I would have never even bothered with before (Prog rock from the 70's, Hip Hop, and Ambient). Still love metal and have way more of an appreciation for it now then I ever did.
>>29795223
Same
>>29795191
well yeah no shit, those aren't prerequisites for listening to metal, just like you don't need to dress like a criminal to listen to hip hop, or a stereotypical hipster to listen to indie
>>29795223
I'm pretty much the same way, I don't listen to it a lot anymore but I don't hate it. Metal heads are usually faggots but if you just like it, who cares
17, and then at 22, I reached a new wave of maturity, and started listening to things I like again.
>>29794625
i know this is a meme thread, but if you "outgrew" metal, that means you were probably listening to the same stuff/similar artists over and over again. metal is a spectrum that covers so much ground it's incredible, and if you look hard enough i honestly don't think you could ever get bored of it as a genre
/mu/ can be helpful here
Got into it at 10 stopped listening at 12. Am 19 now and getting back into it
Still listening at 35 but I admit that most of it is boring. I manage to find a good album every now and again. The latest Fates Warning album sounds good.
>>29794876
>dragonforce fan
yeah you were never into metal
>>29795437
this, although /mu/ isn't that helpful unless you're really close minded going in
I never get why metal is seen as this really backwards, inwards-looking genre. I guess because it's by far the biggest popular music genre umbrella that has managed to maintain a high level of self-containment. but musically some of the most experimental and generally peerless albums I've heard recently have been from metal
the fact that one could even comment on their relationship with the genre as an entire entity kinda proves that they haven't really listened to much
pic related is maybe a meme album but I only heard it recently and have not heard anything like it before
>>29794625
I've never really liked metal but in the past 2 years I've really got into power metal, I'm not even below the age of 20 how did this happen
>>29795820
Are you a manchild? Only acceptable power metal is Blind Guardian.
>>29794625
13, I never went head-banger-mode. The guy in you picture went from greasy-looking head banger, to greasy-looking hipster. I can't tell which is worse.
I was into metal for about all of 3 minutes when I was 14. I grew up in an urban area, not a lot of people there listened to metal.

I didn't lose it's appeal, I just left the spectrum I was inhabiting aka tech death, prog metal, symphonic metal because it got annoying after a while and it made me look like a pretentious fag, now it's juicy steak riffs or cool atmosphere that kind of reels me in.

I want numales gone
When I first got into metal I listened to all that metal/death core shit like Bring Me the Horizon, Bullet for My Valentine and As I lay Dying but I outgrew that stuff and now I listen to the classics like Metallica, Pantera, Slayer and the rest of them. I also enjoy some of the Scandinavian death metal bands. Some metal music is objectively really good so I don't see myself stop listening to it anytime soon.
>>29795223
>mfw I used to be a metal elitist when I was like 15
I just hope I'm better now. That a personal embarrassment.
>>29794814
I actually took your advice and I have to say, that was terrible. Exactly why I don't enjoy Metal.
>>29794625
16, heard some jazz and now I expect some more than just a stacked 8th and 5th on top of the root. Metal is music for hacks
>>29795986
Awful. I bet you're a transformers figures collecting neckbeard.
>>29794625
>Alway hated metal
>was freinds with some metalheads in collage.

>if I call something awful everyone will instantly think I know what I'm talking about and they will take me seriously
I outgrew pretty much everything except for one album by Sabaton. The Art of War is just too good for me to give up.

Fav bands?
>>29794949
do you like electric wizard?
>>29796277
Dude, it's power metal, I don't even have to say anything. It's a meme genre, the kind that girl metalheads always seemed to love.
>>29796188
You can find plenty of unconventional time signatures and stractures in metal. You didn't give it enough time.

>tyr

>>29794625
>metal
>appeal
Around 19. But I was still into it, a little.
I started listening to ambient mostly ( thanks Varg ) and before I knew it, it's all I'm listening to. And I still do.
I'm 29 and the only metal that's lost it's appeal to me is the early/mid 2000's "nu metal" as it was called, because that shit is basically just 'liberal teenage angst - the soundtrack', and if I want to hear the sound of liberal teenage angst, I'll listen to grunge.
>>29794949
>stoner metal
My fucking nigga.
Nothing is more fun than drumming to Violence of the Red Sun.
this is what white people listen to? when they say 'hey let's relax and put on some music' is this what they're talking about?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-ZVkESecXk
glad af I don't live around any of these peckerwoods
Only normies judge others' taste in music. Don't become one of them. Rise above.
>>29794949
Stoner metal is bottom of the barrel. There are a handful of bands that stand out, but for the most part, if you've heard one, you've hear them all.
>>29796672
Most white people put on radiotrash or nigbeats to """"relax"""".
>>29796672
What the fuck does peckerwood mean and why is it specifically a insult for whites?
>>29796576
powerwolf is fucking top tier desu
have you been to one of their concerts?
>>29794625
It never lost its appeal to me, it still captures an atmosphere that simply cannot be found in other genres. I just began to enjoy other atmospheres more. Metal by in large is very stagnant right now, and doesn't accurately represent or appeal to what I am feeling right now.
>>29796672
>telling people what you listen to
>saying anything other than rap or annoying pop
sorry nigboy but i would rather get caught fapping than tell someone what i listen too
>>29794625
I still listen to the instrumentals all the time. The vocals just annoy me now.
>>29796726
You can say that with a lot of genres though. Few bands keep things interesting, but bands can copy the most popular in the genre. Thrash, Death, Black, and Grindcore.
Maybe about 20? It's not like I "outgrew" it. It's just that a lot of it sounds pretty angry, and I'm burnt out. No anger left in me, just a vague sadness. I listen to the blues now, mostly.
>>29796829
>just a vague sadness
Funeral doom, anon.
>>29796829
I can direct you to some amazing sad metal if you want.
19. I'll probably go back to it at some point but it's all disco and eurobeat for now
>>29794814
>Le not all metal is bad xDDD
>Proceeds to suggest trashy hipster noise as an example
>>29794625
At 16. I still have my long hair though. I grew out of metal (with the exception of a few bands), but I still listen to rock.
>>29794625
Damn so that guy became a faggot by cutting metal of his life?
Huh
>>29796884
Nah, the energy of metal in general doesn't do it for me now, either. It kind of tires me out. It's that sort of "I've given up on life" sadness. Blues kind of makes me feel less alone in it.
18. I realized I never really liked it. Just like video games, anime and 4chan. I hate all this shit, I just don't have what it takes to be normal and successful, so I chose to "enjoy" being a failure.
I noticed it way too late, though. At least I didn't do it at 21 or something like that, if it's this hard to unfuck a life of 18 years of fucking up, I question the odds of unfucking more than 20 years of being retarded.
>>29794814

There's metal for that too. It's not always energetic, there are ballads and stuff. For example, this could be r9k's anthem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzOV_tPOSTs
>>29794625
It never did, but I was always a casual. I listen to singles (from nearly any genre) pretty much exclusively. As long as it sounds good to me.
Finding new music never really mattered to me much desu. I'm pretty satisfied with what I have now. If I happen to find a good song I'll add it to my small list. I don't even bother looking up bands anymore.
>>29794625
If metal has lost its appeal, why is it used everywhere in everyday life?
>>29796398
>You can find plenty of unconventional time signatures and stractures in metal
I like a nice groove in an odd time signature, but the problem with metal is the fucking lame ass chord structure, wich is kind of inevitable with the fucking cranked up distortion u must have to even call it "metal". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_zUweqyDZ4
this is the last metal album I truly respect. After realizing what i loved about this album I did not give a shit about new metal releases or discoveries and just started to listen to jazz.
I'm 30 and the last time I was actively seeking out and listening to new bands was probably around 2010. My appreciation for some of the god-tier classics (Priest, Maiden) has deepened over time though, and I'm noticing all of a sudden that bands I've always thought of as "new" have been around for like 20 fucking years.
>>29797130
Ah, you're one of those pretentious "I listen to noises while high" hipster faggots. Move along.
