I feel like an npc whenever I wagecuck.
Anyone else feel like this?
The customers are the NPCs. Always.

Would you rather be a NEET? Being an NPC is better than not being in the game.

This
I'm too boring and robotic to be the protagonist

Yeah I definitely get this.
In fact, sometimes I'll make a game of it. I'll stand completely still by the register with an otherwise blank expression with a slight smile. I even quote things from pic related like "another satisfied customer" or "have a look at my wares"
Most customers are old people who don't notice anyway, but if I'm gonna get paid $10.50/hr to be a retail slave I'm gonna get some fun out of it.

Whoops forgot pic related, It's ESIV Oblivion
I used to work retail and would usually pretend I was an RPG shopkeeper or something. I still acted normally, but it helped my outlook on the situation a bit, to keep the job from being depressing.
