The movie industry tries to deliver the best possible service for their client by making the viewer associate drinking and smoking with being "cool and sexy"
Furthermore they let the protagonists drink and smoke for stress relieve, which is a key mechanism of alcohol and tobacco addiction and feels like getting a lap dance while on viagra to people currently struggling with the addiction.

Alcohol feels really nice the first time I drink after, say, 6 months of not drinking at all. I feel all happy, and content, and relaxed. At my current tolerance levels, I seem to be able to get three shots down without triggering uncomfortable detoxification symptoms the next morning. 4 shots will cause me to feel really sick. Like I've been poisoned.
But Then I want to do it again the next day, and already I notice decreased high effects, and increased toxicity symptoms earlier on.
