The 1950s had remarkably cut and dry ideals about what was socially acceptable and they vehemently discouraged anything that stepped outside those boundaries. If a robot grew up in the 50s his parents would probably disown him for being a leech on society, he'd me miserable in school with little to no friends and everyone would shun you for being a deviant and having an off kilter sense of humor.
