My friend living in Japan said that bullying isn't that common or as bad as media makes it seem. Anti bullying campaigns and all that make it seem worse than it is. It probably depends what area though. The Japanese do like to an hero.

Japan seriously sucks to live in, don't do it, do you know they have 6 day work weeks? You only get Sundays off, also they pretty much expect you to work 12 hours a day, there's a reason escapism is so rampant and all the grown ups fantasize so much about their high school days.
