I was a "bright" and even identified as a "gifted" kid when I was young and in my teens I often felt more advanced in a lot of areas. At the least I had a very different mindset than my peers and was neck deep and reading philosophy and shit at the time, but really I felt stupid compared to everyone around me. I felt like a slow learner.
Now I'm 24 and just starting college, but everything feels so easy to me. It's like I can't help but pick up the material very quickly just by sitting in my lecture. I can't tell if I'll kicked in the ass by upper level courses, if my peers around me are all just functional retards, or if maybe somehow taking years off school to work and mature made me into an actually smart person.
In either case I don't think it really matters, just something to note.

Intelligence is defined as, and I quote from the Oxford dictionary, "The ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills". IQ is defined as "A number representing a person's reasoning ability (measured using problem solving tests) as compared to the statistical norm or average for their age, taken as 100".
While there is most likely a reasonable correlation, since one who can memorise and manipulate information in order to apply it to certain situations most likely has good problem solving and pattern finding abilities that require no previous learning, the two are in no way dependent on one another.

That chart says "growth in the cortex" not "growth of the brain", so I assume it is referring to the growth of grey matter and other neural tissues in the cerebral cortex. But brain size can correlate fine with intelligence, just look at the size of the brain and intelligence of a 7 year old vs. an 18 year old's or microcephaly, as the brain develops it naturally increases in size.
