It went downhill the moment the mootdusky/ref incident happened. All the good threads got banned or moved to other boards. Generals also killed it because everything that wasn't a divegrass thread was forced into one general. People left because it wasn't as funny and the sports discussion was shit unless you were a soccer fan.

9001 was because the board was closed then reopened like a year later so they changed it from 9000 to 9001 as like a new edition. they actually got rid of the robot for a while then readded it around halloween last year i think

I remember being excited every night to browse /sp/. It was the funniest board on this site. For a few years, a majority of site wide memes originated there. What originates from there now? Nothing.
The board is so dull now. The banter is weaker, the memes staler, the front page dryer.
/sp/ needed that late night banter to tie the community together and create the unique culture it had. Now the community is fractured into general threads that have a reddit-esque quality to them.
Now that generals exist, I don't see why we can't have a power rankings or chase bowl thread every once in a while. If most of the new users are going to be locked in their threads, what does it matter? They won't even see it.
