As a male, our burdening society expects you to hide your feelings. I too have struggled with social isolation as a result of general indifference to people and my own odd introverted (INFP) ways. I think I am mentally ill. It may run in my family. Anyways, I recall a few times I posted statuses on FB calling out for attention because of these feelings. It never helped at all to do this because I can recall a girl who would peek at my Facebook to gauge my personality and we used to talk in person. She mentioned seeing my Facebook even though we weren't friends. She eventually wanted to stop talking to me and tried to avoid me. I figured it was because of my Facebook posts. As a male, when you have problems, you have to channel that into working out, running, sports. Typical manly shit. Don't turn to social garbage media to complain, because people will never get it.

The internet is the perfect emotional honeypot. You can release your deepest emotions that you clearly fucking wouldn't in person because there's no nonverbal cues to tell you you can't. The feeling of gratification and complete power you have is great until you get away from your screen and see the person/people who've seen your shit in real life and realize you were misled into thinking that there was nothing wrong in posting your most private thoughts and feelings online when, psychologically, it seemed you WERE alone --- everyone and everything else a fragment of your solipsistic self, incapable of hurting you.
People nowadays are neither more nor less histrionic and overly emotional than they have been throughout history. The only difference is they used to keep that shit under wraps. I don't follow any religion, I mostly started reading it just to at least know what it said. But it's kind of interesting if you see past the metaphors and think about people cutting themselves today.
