Is 20 too old for college ?

I had to take a break from schooling due to health reasons. What age do people normally attend college (Not uni college)

Will it be awkward, am I going to be a weird loser.

Pic unrelated, it's bait.

I'm going back again now, will be turning 23.

There were plenty of people older than me when I went the first three times though, so you won't stick out much at 20 I think.

This is university though
>>
>is being college age to old to be in college

Lighten up, will you?
>>
I'm 19, just finished my first year. Trust me, you won't be sticking out. People usually go at 18-19 years of age.
>>
>>29680917
Lol, fuck no. I'm going back to finish up finally this year at 29. My brother just got his mechanical engineering degree at 41 and is on his way to a cushy upper-middle-class lifestyle after spending pretty much all of his youth in and out of his mom's basement, constantly on-the-road musical ventures, or, for a short time, prison.
>>
>>29680917
Why the hell would that be too old? You're hardly 2 years behind the rest. People in their late 20s constantly succeed at college. Just don't take out a student loan to get some random degree because you don't feel like working yet.
>>
>>29680917
You can never be too old for college. One of my classmated was 67 and nobody cared.
>>
If you don't have your bachelor's by 20 it's game over, sorry dude.

20 is WAY too old...the oldest person in my senior year class was 21 and his nickname was grandpappy.

Isn't 2 years a lot though ? My little sister's going strait to Uni on a full scholarship.

The program I'm enrolling in is only for 1.5-2 years (depending on muh grades)

She does better at school and life for some reason. She's going to med school.
>>
>>29680917

I went at 31. Plenty of people start later than you after going in the military for 4 years.
>>
>>29681033

Shit edulet, at the school I went to, you were considered a retard if you didn't graduate with at least a doctorate by 16.
>>
>>29681033
>>29681089
Lol, I'm autistic and even I know this is sarcasm.
>>
>>29680917
>Is 20 too old for college ?

Fuck no. There's thousands of veterans getting degrees after military service.

The average age of college students at least the one that my brother went to is 27.

You are never too old for college. You'll fucking find 50 year olds in some of your classes. Get some fucking perspective in life, jesus.
>>
>>29681089

Understandable really. These are changing times.

http://college.usatoday.com/2015/05/22/11-year-old-graduates-college-with-3-degrees/

They make it sound like it's exceptional for this guy to have 3 degrees but they're all Associate's. Really he'll be lucky if he can get a job pumping gas (local stations in my area require at least a bachelor's for the fuel attendant position and if you're over 16 they want to see a good resume, no gaps).
>>
>tfw 23

you can see me in the streets begging money

I'm short, autistic and fat though. Will I get bullied like in high school ?

I'm Georgian (Look Middle Eastern) and got a funny name. how likely am I to suffer a hate crime ?

(The college's in Florida)
>>
>>29681182
(Cont)

I don't think that I can live on my own either
>>
>>29681052
So you're only here to complain about your sister
Listen, I'm in the same position as you. My sister is way better at life than me, being the firstborn child and getting all the attention and support, as well as being a woman. But I don't bother thinking about that, because you just need to focus on what you need to do. Stop comparing yourself to her.
>>
Enough with the jokes though.

OP you're fine joining college at 20. You might feel like a grown man by now but you're still basically an adolescent. No offense intended, but your brain isn't even fully developed yet (that doesn't happen until your mid 20's, if not even later).

Relax. You're very, very young.

Had my IQ tested when I was 18, It's 147 but I got shit short term memory and I'm functionally retarded with respect to socializing, faces, emotions, most humor, non social non-verbal cues/communication etc

I'm high functioning autistic
>>
>>29681182

>I'm short, autistic and fat though. Will I get bullied like in high school ?

I am the one who was making cracks about you being too old for college.

No, you probably won't get bullied. Bullying really isn't tolerated at college much, in my experience. They take things more seriously.

I also look somewhat middle eastern and I never got much shit for it (other than the "what is your nationality" questions that are for better or worse part of being "ethnic" when you live in America).

Also, most universities and colleges have free gymnasiums. So you might be able to lose a lot of fat very easily. Mine had those bicycle video game systems where you pedal to move. The controls were wrong (no countersteering) but overall they were pretty fun games and you burn a lot of calories.
>>
>>29681182
Holy shit you have no grip on reality
>>
>>29681308
Thank you for replying, you've allayed most of my tensions.
>>
>>29681182

Fortunately you don't get bullied in the same way as you do in high school. Methods seem more sophisticated. Most of the time you just get ignored and treated like a ghost.
>>
OP, do you know what portion of the college population that goes to a four year college immediately after high school is? 5%. You're fine.
>>
>>29680917
Countries with mandatory conscription have men going to college at 20+. You aren't alone.
>>
>>29681287

School is designed for people with 85 IQ, fast reading rates and eidetic memories to ace. Sorry. I'm happy with a 3.2 GPA and a brain that can think of new ways to solve problems.
>>
>>29681454
Citation needed.

I only ask because my particular high school class was more around 65-70%
>>
>>29680917
I've seen 55+ year old people attending college. It's not too old. Not by a longshot.
>>
>>29681480
I think I read it in the Atlantic, but it may have been a different news producer. I'm not going to retrace my steps for it, do your own research. And yeah, no shit, there are a lot of high schools where the rates are higher, where I went to school it could've easily been close to 80%, but that's ignoring all the shitty schools where half the class doesn't even graduate.
>>
>>29681389 How so ? please elaborate

>>29681426 I don't mind being ignored, It really doesn't hurt my feelings. I find it comforting, I'm a hermit of sorts. I never had friends. Most people look at my blank face and either assume (They tell me) that I'm very sad. When people talk to me they usually underestimate me due to my expressionless stare. I also tend to stare at people for long periods of time and it makes them uncomfortable. I realize this now an consciously stop myself.
>>
>>29680917
Nobody will even notice. They may pick up on your attitude if it is very deviating from the social norms.
>>
>>29681537

Same here. I stare a lot. Usually I'm not even thinking of the person I'm focused on. It's just the novelty of looking at people other than the ones that occupy my house. The safest areas to look in college are your professor (if lecturing - definitely not during a test as that would be suspicious), the board, and your notebook. You can catch glimpses of the hot girl in the front row in transition.
>>
>>29681537
>>29681633

The internet has made it easy to stare at pictures of people for minutes or hours without looking at anything else. Do that to real life people and it is rightly assessed as being creepy.
>>
>>29681468
the lower 6 and upper 6 (IGCSE) workload really screwed me. I went through a period of extreme depression and one toxic teacher (Who was probably a narcissist) made things that much worse. She made me associate one of my favorite subjects with negativity and punishment to the point that whenever I tried to study I saw her face and all the harm she did to me (Negative association) I never had any problems with any other teacher in all my years fortunately. Just that one kicked me when I was down and it almost killed me. I'm slowly recovering now 2 years on. Clinical Narcissist are worse than psychopaths because at least a psychopath is logical and therefore understandable. Narcissists are overly emotional and unstable, so quick to take offense and old a grudge and undermine you.
>>
>>29681633 I mostly don't realize I'm doing it. It's really embarrassing. I also suck at non verbal cues so it's hard for me to tell when the person is getting cheeped out. I usually just think about something else while staring at them, One time some guy punched me in the face because I was starring at his girlfriend
>>
>20 years old being an issue

I'm 23 and have a friend in his 30's. It's a non issue.
>>
Tuition is going to be FREE here in 2018 for low income families, so I'm gonna wagecuck for another year and put off education till then. I'm gonna be 21 by the time I start, but I think it's a good trade-off.
>>
I'm a 25yo NEET with 0 work experience, should I even bother going to college? Even if I have a degree I feel like no one would hire me because of the massive hole in my resume.

I guess I'll just NEET for ever.

and no I cant do trades, 10+ years of doing nothing but sitting in front of a computer has fucked my spine and I cant stand for more than like 2 hours.
>>
>>29681832
Bernie would've made it free here :\
Now we're going to have a war with Iran which is basically my country's (Georgia) big brother.

I like Iran, Georgia's De Jure Persian clay. makes me sad seeing what happened in Syria and Libya. I don't want that to happen so close to home. Iran's nice.
>>
>>29681033
What kind of retarded ass opinion is this?
I joined uni as literally as early as I could and I'm gonna turn 20 during my second year of my degree
>>
>>29681897

I don't understand why normies care about resume holes. They see it as a sign of laziness. For me I just needed about a NEET vacation decade to recover from my teenage years. The recovery process was slowed by all kinds of things. During my "vacation" time, I programmed and worked with paint and office software. I did personal projects that required a lot of planning.

Do they do the same thing to women who have been housewives for 20 years? What a shitty double standard.
>>
>>29681897
just get something in engineering, its really your only chance, that or nursing, you might have to work some shit jobs at the beginning but its better then nothing. The cyborg life isnt so bad anyways, you get to buy some nice computer parts
>>
>tfw finished my entire math sequence at a CC + another CC but calc 2 didn't transfer to the 4 year I was accepted to (but it transferred to main CC)
>had my transfer acceptance revoked because I'm a student that has finished linear algebra and differential equations, but apparently hasn't finished Calc 2
>have to wait a WHOLE FUCKING YEAR for ONE CLASS
>tfw getting my BS at 24 or 25, now

Just fucking kill me. the only saving grace is that i'm going for engineering. Christ, I should have just gone to a technical school
>>
>>29680917
>tfw i went back to school at 23
>tfw no one even noticed even in 100 level classes

"I keep getting older, but they keep staying the same age"

Stay mad neets
>>
>>29680917
No, anon. It's not too old for college. Honestly it's just right for college. Slightly older than freshmen, gives you more chances with freshmen.

Beyond this, you should not underestimate the importance of the things you can learn at university. They are not only useful for instrumental purposes, to get a job and stuff. It will also reveal to you new things you never considered doing, a good school may get you to think more methodically and seriously, you may refine your sense of the life you want to live and in this way help you give meaning to your existence.

I've personally always been asocial. Beyond the fact that even I could make friends in uni (everyone is disorganised and afraid when they start as freshmen and therefore very open to forming new relationships, rather than excluding new people in favor of their pre-formed cliques). And that's not the basic thing. What's really important is that through the opportunity to develop my character I no longer fear loneliness at all. I need to be alone, in order to read the things I want to read, and this has really fulfilled my life.

It's actualization. If you can go for it, absolutely go for it.
>>
>>29680917
no worries anon, I'm 22 and I'm just starting
It's about how serious you are when you start and not failing your semesters
>>
Not at all and if anything you'll have a leg up if you don't dick around like your classmates will. Your also young enough not to face age discrimination and nobody will notice you are graduating a few years after the "normal" age.
