Has anyone here ever changed their name (especially if you live in the US)?

I've wanted to desperately for years but the court fees have always stopped me. Now I finally earn enough to pay for it, but I'm faced with all kinds of legal bullshit, and I can't find the goddamn forms anywhere. I'm thinking hiring a lawyer just to make sure I don't fuck it up would be my best bet, but maybe I'm just an idiot and I'm missing something simple.
