It's better if you don't live near the victim, cops look for suspects around that area. If you have a car, travel somewhat far from your home, get gloves, something to cover your face, and look for lone people at desolate and dark places, or lure dumbasses/ignorants into places like that. See this guy? He shot people at night. He got caught for two reasons:
First, he used a firearm that was extremely common and could be identified via forensics, even if the revolver left no casings at the scenes.
Second, he was seen multiple times. Killing victims at random already makes it hard for investigators to catch you, so they rely on witnesses
Take those two out of the equation and you won't get caught, like a lot of murderers don't. Shoot someone around 3 AM with a sawed-off SxS shotgun: no possible way to identify the model, even the caliber would be difficult, as long as you only had to shoot twice

this is actually pretty good. Most murder cases even today are solved by knocking on doors, getting eye witnesses, questioning people that might have something against the victim. If you're not connected to them they'll never find you, its not like csi.
