But people don't really care about the subjectivity. They care about how people are perceived by others on average. They rank each others based on it. They want to maximize what they can get. It affects their own standing and perceived worth.

Beauty is subjective after a certain point. People who are 7/10 and above might as well all be in the same category since tastes differ so wildly. For example a 7/10 Jamal might be a 10/10 for some mudshark Stacie but a 7/10 Chad would be 10/10 for a potato chasing Yui-chan.
