/r9k/, i need some help
I'll be doing a job interview over skype 3 hours from now and I just learned they're going to test my english skills (I'm not a native speaker)
i have no problem writing in english but my pronounciation is retardedly bad
what I ask from you is: post some sample texts and I will read them and record the result on vocaroo. I want you to judge my pronounciation and correct any mistakes

Different guy from the one who posted the text, but that wasn't too bad in my opinion. What is your native language, and what's the job? Also, try something a bit longer, since we can't tell much just from one-liners:

"Shannon supposedly belonged to Bell Labs mathematical research group, but he mostly kept to himself. When the group left the New York headquarters for shiny new space in the New Jersey suburbs, he stayed behind, haunting a cubbyhole in the old building, a twelve-story sandy brick hulk on West Street, its industrial back to the Hudson River, its front facing the edge of Greenwich Village."

That was pretty good on the whole. As a native English speaker with pretty much the baseline American accent you see in movies, there were a couple of words I would have had to ask you to repeat if I'd heard that without knowing what you were trying to say ahead of time, but basically I don't think I would have any problems holding a long conversation with you.

On the basis of that, my only advice might be to slow just a tiny bit if in doubt. The first sentence was perfect, the parts that were slightly unclear mostly came toward the end, and it seemed like you may have been going through some words a bit faster ("sandy" struck me as the hardest to make out).

Try: "He disliked commuting, and he liked the downtown neighborhood, where he could hear jazz clarinetists in late-night clubs. He was flirting shyly with a young woman who worked in Bell Labs' microwave research group in the two-story former Nabisco factory across the street."

Nope. Biographical snippets about Claude Shannon, from James Gleick's book on the history of information theory.

And you still sound very good overall. Can't really think of any room for improvement aside from my earlier advice about slowing down here and there.
