I wore those exact shorts for the first three hot months of this year, until I tore them to shreds during work and replaced them with Dickies.
But to answer your question: it entirely depends on what situation you're wearing them for, and what the rest of your outfit is like. It's sort of like fedoras in that regard, except you don't have to be seventy years old or a dashing black man to make them work.
