don't worry.

YES! you can definitely stop fapping.

it'll take more willpower than you imagine.
don't ever surrender!

six months without fapping: this is your first target.

Crippling depression is still very much here, but i think i feel a bit better.

Next step is learning a skill that could land me a job by the end of summer. Like Photoshop/Aftereffects/Music production/Programming something with those.

ah, I see you've fallen for my trap. Blundered into my labyrinth of terror, so to speak.

in fact, the green meme arrow in the original post means that it is YOU speaking that tired and delusionally optimistic phrase! Not me, you.

and the frog? If you look closely, you'll see that he is laughing with derision at your futile attempts to better yourself. Oh, how I love tormenting you hopeless robots!

the main thing i want to do is find a job so i could move out.
What real life skill you would suggest that would be easy to land an okay paying job with?
>>

Literally any trade.
>>
>>29629838
showing up on time and not being on drugs is all you need to get a decent paying job
>>
Funny enough I said that in December and lost 32lb up until recently. Then I got lazy and lost all good habits.
>>
>>29629850
I don't know about America, but in Australia even a basic retail job can earn you good money if you don't spend it on heaps of temporary luxuries like cigarettes, drugs, alcohol expensive as fuck phone plans etc.
>>
>>29629880
that's true in america too. although in big metropolises you might need a roommate but for the most part, like you say, if you don't blow your wad on useless stuff you're good to go
>>
>>29629880
Where i live you need something more than retail to be able to live alone and pay off all bills + rent +food and have some on the side so you could actually save up for higher education or buy shit or maybe do some repairs around your house so you live in a little less shitty place.
>>
>>29629900
Which is unfortunately what most people I know do. A guy I used to work with, the lucky stupid cunt. He had a full time job and he was literally broke, in debt and living week to week, and renting with his brother.

He blew all his money on alcohol, bought breakfast, coffee and lunch at work, and gambled all his money away while claiming to be a "pro poker player".
>>
>>29629917
You could live with friends/roommates like the other anon said.
>>
>>29629924
my brother is the same way. he makes good money but he lives in a place that's too big and over paying, which is fine, but then he blows just so much money on things like beer, gadgets, eating out and eating a lot too and he has like 0 dollars despite the money he makes

he's got a big ass TV though so maybe to him it's worth it
>>
>>29629945
People forget about the need of money for emergencies and the future though. You can't just keep living that way forever. This guy I worked with excluding rent and food could have probably easily saved himself at least 15-20k. He's been full time for two years as well, and has NOTHING to show for it.
>>
>>29629933
But thats no different than living with parents.

Its actually worse, because you could find yourself with a piece of shit person who would steal shit or break shit and there are the possible arguments about paying rent etc.
>>
>>29629968
This is the /r9k/ attitude that holds you back from going anywhere in life. "what if this, what if that".

Who cares, just go for it.
>>
>>29629960
over all bad money management and bad priorities. I think my brother figures our dad will bail him out if anything happens, which is true, but it's not a good look. here in america there is an additional problem where people go into debt with student loans and stuff. those guys are really fucked and would be lucky to have 0 dollars like your buddy over there instead of having essentially negative dollars because they got a graphics design degree for 80 thousand dollars
>>
>>29629993
Yeah I don't want to be in more debt. Fuck that. I already owe my dad a bit. It's always sitting over my head. I don't know how people just think it's okay to be in the negatives all the time.
>>
>>29629982
Youre right anon. Fuck it. It will be better than doing nothing all day.
>>
>>29630010
Honestly. Do it. No one ever got anywhere by procrastinating.
>>
>>29630004
probably by not thinking about it since it's this sort of invisible thing. it might have to do with a lack of foresight and basically just living in the present. a debt only concerns people who are looking out to the future instead of spending tomorrows gas money on a beer today. it's better to owe family though so you don't get boned by interest.
>>
>>29629982
/r9k/ encourages doing nothing, and will brainwash you into thinking it's ok to give up. get out while you can.
>>
>>29630062
Yeah. Luckily he doesn't mind as long as I pay it back, which I am slowly.

Looking into the future is logical though imo. I mean, I like being a little impulsive but still. You need to think about this shit.
>>
>>29629573
That requires a major life change. Like waking up at 5 when you usually wake up at 11, cleaning up the house or actually cooking stuff for once.
>>
>>29630150
No shit you lazy fuck.
>>
>>29630096
I agree, but lots of people don't share that sentiment. I don't know why that would be. maybe it has something to do with the sort of prolonged adolescence many people seem to be stuck in. I started noticing it more and more, especially during one of the presidential debates they had over here where the candidates seemed to be talking in the exact same way middle school teachers talk to children. it was bizarre
>>
>>29630165
Honestly, people seem to be too worried about keeping up with the joneses imo instead of actually looking out for their best interests.
>>
>>29630183
very true. it's difficult to correct too, because you're dealing with people who aren't used to self-denial and delaying gratification. all you can do is prepare yourself and set a good example for those around you. living healthily, debt free and stress free is the best way to go
>>
>>29630227
This is honestly my opinion on why rednecks, bogans, chavs etc are all poor as fuck.

They're too busy trying to LOOK rich while actually being poor as fuck. People fail to realise rich people didn't get rich by spending all their cash.
>>
>>29630235
a big problem is the idea that not having a lot of money or very many luxuries is a bad thing. almost none of it is really necessary. you'd be surprised how much junk fill "poor" peoples houses. they have so much stuff, but it's all junk
>>
>>29630279
Agreed. Shit, even my family is quite doing well off and we have a lot of shit we don't need. It disgusts me at the amount of double ups we have of things "just in case one of them breaks".

First world problems at it's finest.
>>
>>29630300
my dad just collects useless stuff. he has 3 didgeridoos and doesn't play the didgeridoo. it's shit like that that makes you think. I'm fortunate because I was able to see the absurdity of it, but I guess others see such purchases and think to themselves "when I get money I'll buy every interesting little knick knack" without realizing that the best way to make money is to simply not spend it
>>
>>29630383
Are you Australian? We've got a didgeridoo. My sister and I legitimately think our dad is a hoarder. He hangs on to everything. Literally takes salt and pepper packets from cafes and shit. My sister threw some out recently and he went insane. Has about 200kg worth of brass shit out in the back yard. Holds on to old shit like printers because "the technology is worth a lot of money".
>>
>>29629573
Best joke all day
>>
>>29630394
no, american. he has other useless items too but I thought you'd appreciate the didgeridoos more. my dad used to steal ash trays too. maybe a bit of a hoarder as well. the stuff just slowly accumulates. treating yourself here, buying a couch there, but if you add it all up, all the things you don't use, all the space it takes up, it doesn't make sense
>>
>I've been telling myself this for the last 5 years
>for a few months I even succeeded
>now the motivation is gone and I'm back where I started
It hurts so much
>>
>>29630436
Haha yeah, pretty surprising really.

We suspect he's a hoarder because his family grew up poor. Sort of "hang on to what you get". If that makes sense? His mother (my grandmother) has the same mentality. I mean she gives us her bananas from the retirement home because she doesn't eat them.

They cleaned out her old house in the last year and there was so much shit. They found a bag full of old bird feathers. Shit was weird. Glad I didn't go there.
>>
>>29630004
I think the notion that you owe your parents money is a little silly. Like, they're your parents. Owing them for paying say your tuition seems silly when they also invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into raising you which you're not going to pay them back for (reasonably). If it's in your parents' interests to send you to university they shouldn't make it more difficult for you by having you pay them back. It's a lot easier for them to make money at their age/position than it is for you starting out, so it makes sense that they invest in you so you can focus on school, get good grades, go to good schools, and then end up earning a lot later in life too (which you can invest in your own kids and their education).

You know the meme of asian kids being really smart and getting good jobs? 99% of it is due to the fact that their parents hold this attitude, so instead of wasting their time working at menial entry jobs to pay off debt they have the time to study and do really well in school and go to top schools. Then, with internships, instead of spending what they earn in debt they already start racking up savings to get a head start in life. It's a much more long-term way of approaching things.

>>
>>29630481
Nah these were more for my own luxuries. IE Gym equipment, concert tickets etc. Things I didn't really need per se.
>>
>>29630464
my grandmother on my father's side also had a bunch of stuff in her house. he sorta grew up poor too. maybe that has something to do with it. never having much so now that he can he fills his house with stuff, instead of realizing that in the end, he never really needed that stuff he never had anyway
>>
>>29629982
If being not reckless and impulsive is an r9k thing then they've actually done something right for once.
>>
>>29630481
The funny thing about the "asian kids" thing is my dad was similar to that, in a way.

He never studied or anything, but back then you weren't really required too.

He owned his own business for the better part of 25 years, had his own house around the age of 30. At one point he owned 3-4 houses and was renting most of them out except the one he lived in of course.

I wish I had his drive, but the thing is, he's a classic workaholic. And I mean it full blown. He's almost ruined his marriage because of it. I think workaholism is something people don't take seriously enough.
>>
>>29629586
you're such a dick by discouraging people that may make it just because you're hopeless and failed to make it
>>
>>29630509
>reckless and impulsive
No, it's more that the general consensus on here is "never take risks". No one made progress by doing nothing. You've got to take risks in life to make progress. You might fail a few times, you might not.
>>29630505
Yeah. I think it's a psychological thing. Like because now they have money and items, never throw it away in case something bad happens financially? So you've still got wealth in your house or something? Idk.
>>
>>29630547
if it was a physical wealth thing having gold and gems would make more sense than didgeridoos. but there's definitely still a degree of "hey we might need that" sort of thing. where now it's been 20 years and we still haven't needed it, but yet in the garage it is just in case. I think the act of getting the item is the main attraction, then once they have it, it doesn't fill that hole in them so they have to get something else, and so on
>>
>>29630596
Consumerism in general is addictive. It feels good buying something new. It releases dopamine if I'm not mistaken. I've fallen victim to it. Although I have an unusually addictive and incredible impulsive personally. Something I'm planning on going to a psychiatrist for soon. I could never hoard though.

That's a story for a different day though lel.
>>
>>29630633
it does, thankfully most of my impulse purchases were with WoW gold and not with real money. since then I've gotten a pretty good hold on that compulsion. what I did was just focus on how little I regarded the item once I got it, and how empty it was at the moment I had it in my hot little hands. which made me realize it was really useless, which led me to realize wanting something useless was a waste, and just reasoned it backwards like that. I don't think you need a psychologist more than perhaps just to sit down and break down what you're really doing when you buy something and the real problem is just a compulsion, or a covetousness that in the end doesn't serve you

I definitely think I need to see someone. It's ruining my life. I can't do anything in moderation it seems. Everything is 200% or not at all. And I burn myself out really quickly.
>>
>>29630810
I think that's normal for a young man. mastering your excesses will profit you in the end. many people just give in without resisting, not knowing that resistance builds strength. over the oracle of delphi these words were inscribed: Know Thyself and Nothing to Excess. you can't go wrong starting with those things
>>
>>29630894
We'll see how I go. If it doesn't get better soon I feel like I should get it checked on. Not to keen on going on drugs, but maybe some cognitive therapy might help.
>>
>>29630906
I'm of the opinion disordered minds aren't like a cold that will fix itself, you have to start applying remedies and little by little you can effect a cure
