Is it a good idea to pretend to be a plebeian? Will it help me fit in better?

For instance, when people are getting to know me and they ask, what's your favorite movie/music/book/video game, right now I just answer honestly.
For music I'll say something like "well I don't listen to the radio much but I like to listen to MF DOOM, Nujabes, Fugazi, [list off some more people i like]"

Does this just out me as a fucking loser instantly? If I say anything that's not on the billboard top 100, do they just instantly know I'm a fucking loser? I feel like this is a form of normie shit test. Would I be better off just pretending I'm a run of the mill plebeian fuck:

"my favorite movie is Avatar, I like Drake, G-Eazy and Justin Bieber, my favorite book is Catcher in the Rye and my favorite video game is league of legends :)"

Is that a good intro, like basically being the most pleb as fuck average IQ retard I can possibly muster?
>>
>>29622552
never be less than you are for anyone
>>
>>29622613
Unless you want to fit in. You can like whatever you want, but you need to pretend to like normie stuff if you want to be a cyborg.
>>
>>29622552
If you have to ask that your iq is probably already below average
>>
Depends on who you want to attract and what relationship you want to have with them.

If you want shallow relationships with any of the many normies, then sure, hide your special interests and intelligence.

If you want deep relationships with fellow eccentrics, then don't hide it. Every time you announce your obscure taste you will signal to any listening eccentrics that you are one of them, and they may approach you later.

sometimes I pretend to be somewhat clueless about things I spend a disgusting amount of time researching online.

for example if a girl talks to me I probably have stalked her normiebook and know of everything she's posted for years, but still pretend to be surprised when she shares her hobbies or whatever.
>>
>>29622653
no you're wrong
normies don't care what type of video games/music you like
normies care if you have something to offer and that's about it
>>
>>29622613
LOL if I answered honestly about "what's your favorite movie haha" I would have to say:

"Well I've been watching some really old films lately, some of the American Classics. The films from before the Hays Code were so gritty and raw, it was a very interesting time in American filmmaking. I think the favorite one I've watched so far was 'M' (1931). My favorite modern film from recent times is Birdman though."

You know how autistic that sounds? Everyone I tell that to will know I'm a faggot right from the beginning. You can't make normies feel stupid which is really hard because they are fucking retarded, so you have to keep everything very basic and surface level. Even suggesting or implying that films from the pre-color era are enjoyable outs you as a fucking fag because all normies seem to be cultureless heathen fucks. I lose 80% of people from the word "Classics".
>>

>>29622691
Not OP, but I like this advice. Thank you.

Now I just need to find a way to make people talk to me so I've a chance to introduce myself.
>>
>>29622552
protip: nobody cares when they ask you something like that
>>
>>29622684
Not a bad idea to be completely honest with you right now my brother/father/blood-related kin. If you research ahead of time you know what she is going to say and you can plan the conversation better so you don't blow up with autism.

>>29622691
Just curious, what kinds of "things to offer" do normies look for? Good times, money, drugs, sex, charisma?
>>
>>29622552
>"my favorite movie is Avatar, I like Drake, G-Eazy and Justin Bieber, my favorite book is Catcher in the Rye and my favorite video game is league of legends :)"

plebs don't have well defined favourites, even this is intimidating

just say such and such is pretty good haha and i don't really know there are a lot of cool things
>>
>>29622776
If there are specialist stores for your interests, you could try talking to customers there. I've seen a lot of friendships between nerds start that way.
>>
>>29622552
I did that, it works but you don't get the real satisfaction of being a normie when it's faked, at least for me. If you really just care about how people perceive you then sure
>>
>>29622684
>sometimes I pretend to be somewhat clueless about things I spend a disgusting amount of time researching online.

I spend all my time learning and memorising the ins and outs of arguments in various fields.

Yet when I'm faced with a normie all I do is pretend to be absolutely clueless and think to myself god this person is a real ignoramus.

My favourite situation is being in a circle where one person goes in about their views and makes everyone else feel uncomfortable or better yet convinces them of something that you could completely BTFO and you're just standing there asking questions to them as though you don't understand to cajole them into undermining their own stance.

Or when another autismo fucks up by ranting about something no one understands, pure gold.

You shouldn't become a "pleb", but you should hide your powerlevel instead.

Instead of:
>"well I don't listen to the radio much but I like to listen to MF DOOM, Nujabes, Fugazi, [list off some more people i like]"
Say something more like:
>"I'm a fan of hip hop especially the beats behind the songs."

You sound like an autist when you say "I'm really into atmospheric black metal, 90's doom metal, and brutal technical death metal from Florida."

>Is it a good idea to pretend to be a plebeian? Will it help me fit in better?
Having similar interests won't make you fit in. Being able to talk with others will (though common interests would help).

>For music I'll say something like "well I don't listen to the radio much but I like to listen to MF DOOM, Nujabes, Fugazi, [list off some more people i like]"
Never ever say this again.

>Does this just out me as a fucking loser instantly?
yes

>If I say anything that's not on the billboard top 100, do they just instantly know I'm a fucking loser?
No, you could list more contemporary but less mainstream artists/bands and be fine. It's just the things you list sound like Death Metal (which no "pleb" would like) and j-pop (which instantly puts you in weird nerd territory)

My guide to not sound like a total robot while not sounding like the most retarded normie ever:

>Favorite movie:
Anything that saw box office success that you actually liked (Jurassic Park or Deadpool maybe)

>Favorite Music
Say that you listen to a lot of contemporary/indie stuff on spotify. That way you don't even have to name a band.

> my favorite book:
No mangas or sci-fi or nazi books

>favorite game:
Say Halo 2 or Skyrim or Dragon Age. It doesn't really matter. I wouldn't even consider bringing up video games to someone you just met.
>>
>>29622552
>>29622770
I went from watching films to movie's , shut the old brain off and got a gf pretty shorty after.

So ya it's better just to be dumb or not think about shit

Sure I still watch B&W movies but I talk to people about Winter Solider
>>
>>29622937
But Nujabes and DOOM are pleb and not even remotely comparable to amoshit BM.
>>

You can sperg all you want, but you should confirm it's with someone knowledgeable in the subject or you just sound like a pretentious faggot.

>>29623089
They're fine and I was just using them as an example of people who over classify music around normies. I always say I'm into metal because it's all the more extreme genres.
>>
It has nothing to do with your likes. It'd be better if you just talked about the other person instead. You know, asking questions, you'll find something in common eventually that's maybe not related to specific tastes, but I dunno, if you prefer bigger or smaller spoons, what kind of muffin tastes better or what color are your bed sheets.
It doesn't even matter.
>>
>>29623068
My question is why would you give a shit about befriending people who hear the names MF DOOM, Nujabes, and Fugazi, and immediately associate those things with death metal and j-pop, and thereby use wholly ignorant opinions to dismiss you.

Why give a shit what such a person thinks, really. It's not like they're your boss or something.

>>29622552

Just do it like this
>Favorite Movie
Say some classic movies. If you are over 18 people have seen plenty of moves try and be less autistic, try and name movies they have seen.
>music
say a genre
>book
Literally if you pick Sci-fi or Anime you are a pleb. 4chan has pleb tastes in books outside of /lit/
>video game
do it like the movie, say a game they might like, or have played. The idea is to try to relate without compromising yourself. Find a game you both like, but also suggest some that are similar that you liked.
>>
>>29622770
Yeah, but folks who love movies will think you're fucking awesome. Don't lie and don't pretend to like pleb shit. If someone said their favorite film was Avatar, anyone who is half interesting will question how many movies they've seen/if they have a mental deficiency.
>>
>>29622691
Normies as with everyone else enjoy making friends with people that share things in common. Say you like the most mainstream music and movie so you don't sound like a faggot.
>>
>>29623155
Why should anyone give a shit about befriending OP? He thinks anything that is popular is plebian and that the people who like it are retards, and thereby use wholly ignorant opinions to dismiss them.

>Why give a shit what such a person thinks, really. It's not like they're your boss or something.

I hate how now it's so bad to give your (negative) opinion on things like superhero movies, old bands, and other hobbies / art. I got chewed out in a college math class because I said Nirvana is the most overrated band ever. I don't hate their sound, but it just isn't anything to go crazy over. I also hate superhero movies and normies go apeshit when I say I dislike their new favorite. Had my family chew me out because when we walked out of Batman v. Superman, I said it was a shitty movie made for cash alone.
>>
>>29622770
Yeah, because they asked you a quick question not to give them an essay. If you just said " My favorite newer film is Birdman, but I've been getting into some really old films recently" it'd be totally normal and they'd probably ask you to elaborate.
>>
>>29623493
>integer
>pSHHHHHH LOL
>>
>i mostly like metal

thats all you have to say op and they wont think you are some faggot. Everyone has specific taste its just when you sound like a autistic hipster do they not wanna associate with you.
>>
>>29623623
I get it, man, but there's a specific way to go about criticizing stuff around people you're not close with (and sometimes those you are). Ease into it.

>>29623671
If he says that, he'll be ostracized. The most common answer I hear about music when meeting new people is "I like pretty much everything except metal."
>>
Nope. Be loud and proud about your interests without judging others. They'll probably be fascinated and look to you for information and guidance.

You're probably:
>quietly judgmental, outwardly tolerant, quiet about your own interests

You should be:
>inwardly nonjudgmental, outwardly interested ("oh you saw coldplay? sick! their shows always look really cool. they go all out for the set design"), and enthusiastic about your interests ("if you like coldplay's new sound you might like this electronic duo called Mount Kimbie they have a similar uplifting dance sound")

Avoid namedropping bands that are too obscure. You know which musicians have pop appeal and which don't. The reason they signal about boring pleb shit everyone already knows is because that's the lowest common denominator, culturally speaking. it's easy to talk about and everyone knows it, so its socially valuable. but if you don't behave like a judgmental dick, some normies will surprise you with their interests.
>>
>>29622552
Do you live in the Midwest by chance? I do and this is my fucking life. I have never met a single cultured person in my area. Not one. That sounds pretentious, but everyone's favorite movie here REALLY IS James Cameron's Avatar, or a capeshit movie. Everyone's favorite music artist of all time here REALLY IS nicki minaj.

I live in the most depressing retard community of all time. I've never met anyone who didn't fit this mold. Club music and the latest capeshit is the entirety of their lives and it's so depressing
>>
>>29622552
it's not a shit test, you're just retarded

you don't fit in because you're completely fucked and don't relate to other people

I like whatever I want, I don't care who knows it and people still think I'm the baddest motherfucker, even the plebians. I don't hide my power level or politically incorrect opinions and I live in earnest.

not everything popular with or well known by plebs is shit. try to remember what most people might be familiar with, and get into the lesser known shit if the person seems interested

If you think you have eccentric tastes then just don't go into detail. I've learned not to say I'm into melodic death metal when it comes to music. I usually just say I listen to everything but metal is my favourite. They'll usually say they're not a fan of it, so I just say it's the most fun to play on guitar so that's why I enjoy it. And just like that the conversation switches to hobbies. That's how not to be an autist when talking about your weird tastes
