Keep watching. Once you reach around 100 - 200 shows you stop getting that feeling and you'll miss it. You'll also stop getting that tingly feeling when you see a special fight, speech or event in an anime. That's when you know you're stuck.

Ashamed to say it but...

I usually stop a few episodes short of the finale, and start the series all over. I have trouble focusing on TV so I always pick up new things I missed the first watchthrough.

Anyway, it pretty much doubles or triples the amount of time each series lasts for me.
