Red-pill me on fast food work. tell me everything you know about it from personal experience.
>>
Not fast food, but I used to work as a supervisor in a hotel kitchen.

The food was microwave meals at 5x the price. There was just one person working in the tiny kitchen at a time, which means cutting as many corners as possible when it was busy. We microwaved everything. When I was given the new menu I was confused by the gnocchi, wondering how I could cook it with no hob. The answer was the microwave. One time I was away on holiday and absolutely fuming when I got back. One oven was broken and the other broke too, so the manager told my poor kitchen assistant to microwave anything. Have you ever had microwaved battered cod? I wouldn't recommend it. The prices were at least double I would pay for them.

Also hotels are stingy, and tend to make anyone do any job. Over half of my kitchen staff were housekeepers. One Polish lady had no clue about english food, and served fish and chips with guac (she just went by the picture, it was meant to be mushy peas) and curry with parmesan. She also wiped her eyes whilst preparing the raw bacon and touched the pastries with her raw egg covered hands.

I cringe when I think back to that place. If you think you're getting quality because you're in a hotel then think again.

Life's just a party in the kitchen. Since it's pretty much all guys, you pretty much agree on everything. You experience new cultures. Where I work, we can play music. There you see what music's everyone likes. Oh yeah, hot shit burns. But you tend to get used to it.

Not OP, but can anyone answer how you do the same thing 1000 times a day without wanting to an hero?

Also, how do you interact with customers without creeping them out?

I work in a KFC in here, I'll tell you everything I know.

Cashier:
You work with customers, duh. Some of them are pretty chill and working with/for them is fun. Some are fucking obnoxious, majority of them is neutral. But at the end of the day you hate every single one anyway. Also, we have to offer extra things to customers (dips, extra cheese/bacon, upgrading your fries to bigger size). We get rated for that nad if we sll a lot, we might get some bonuses to the paycheck, Needless to say, I get extremely annoyed when these fucks don't take anything.

Service (that's what a place where sandwiches are prepared is called)
Pretty fun job, desu. It's just kinda stressful and really tiring, because during rush hours you have to work hard.

I don't know what do you want to know exactly, AMA

Worked at Burger King for 5 months. They tend to hire teenagers, half men half women. There's always drama, who fucked who, etc. The work is tiring, the pay is horrible for the amount of work you actually have to put in it, you are literally a slave.

Swapped jobs and now I'm in a chilly office and barely have to do shit. I can shit whenever I want. I can go smoke whenever I want, all this without permission. I can go outside to buy myself snacks or whatever. I don't have to rush my lunch (15 standard minutes at burger king, as much as I want here). Hell, I can even decide not to do jack shit all day if I can meet the quota that week.

If you like to be on a rush all day, sure, fast food places might work out for you. But there are a lot better workplaces for the same salary, and where you are not literally a slave.

But on the bright side, you do get to make a lot of friends in BK, at least I did.

I worked at McDonald's for seven years, was a shift manager for 4. My boss was a bitch and a lot of the customers were rude (it's in a wealthy area.) I became really good friends with most of the people I worked with and they all looked when I was the manager on duty because I didn't care about anything. As long as the store looks good and customers are satisfied with their service, you're clear and the job is pretty simple

Let me know if you have any specific questions
>>
>>29551789
>looked when I was the manager
should be LIKED. My bad
>>
I work at a hippie small business fast food joint and it is insanely chill.

The managers are specifically chosen based on how nice they are to employees, and all our customers are either nice old ladies or people stoned out of their gourd. I get paid sick leave and the same insurance as the CEO.

The trick is, you have to find a place marketed as "fast casual". It's all of the good sides of actual restaurants and fast food joints with none of the downsides of either.
>>
>>29551789
How do you talk to customers and have your face not look like a serial killer/mope? How do you maintain eye contact? How do you enunciate and sound happy enough without sound phony? How do you deal with unexpected situations without your brain freezing up from anxiety?
>>
>>29552042

>Never manager or team lead (They tried to get me to be one, but the pay increase was almost nothing)
>Worked every station (dining room, drive through, kitchen, maintenance)
>6:00 am - 9:00 am dining room was the best
>Lots of kindly old folks just wanting a coffee or a small breakfast
>Usually friendly or just quiet
>Not super busy
>Worst time was either dinner rush, overnight bar rush on weekends or any weekend shift in general
>Those customers were disgusting
>Rude, and always trying to weasel free food out of you
>Always went home stressed
>Always went home a little more jaded about humanity
>Always went home hating myself
Not to mention
>Money sucked

So yeah, it fucking sucked and unless you're sneaky about it, you can't even enjoy free food since managers (At least mine) were super anal about that kinda shit.
Once saw a girl with her tits out in an overnight drive through shift...But that's about it
>>
>>29552475
No, you don't understand. The slower hours are the worst, because time drags on and on.

During a retarded rush, an hour feels like a minute. I once lost a tooth from grinding my teeth during a rush, but it was worth it to not have to deal with the punishment of a slow night.
>>
>>29552543
In drive through it was never completely dead, so when I was working dining room during slow times I'd just help drive through, or clean shit. I always just kinda felt peaceful.
I couldn't stand busy hours with some of the more retarded high school students I worked with because they were always the weak link in the chain, dragging everything down and making the rush a nightmare.
I'd be happy with "Steady" not overwhelming, but not dead...That RARELY happened at my Mc Donalds.

If you're interested in the restaurant business you can work your way up through a crappy chain job and then apply for a position at a dive bar or something similar. You could even start out at a dishwasher at a local place and then move up to prep and so on. I've seen it done many, many times, and you end up making very useful connections along the way.

>it's easier to get a job once you have a job

My family owns a restaurant and I run it.

Sometimes I'll go in and work in the kitchen with the mexican bros and we talk shit and listen to good music. Pretty fun.
>>
>>29552042
I worked as a cashier at burger king for about 8 months. Frim my experience, it's really no big deal how you look at the customers as long as you're not rude to them, and besides, most of them couldn't care less.If you really want to look friendly though, joke around with the staff during downtime or think of literally anything funny before talking to customers.
>>
It depends on the area you live in, the people you work with and what position you work in.

I worked at Wendy's for about six months in my senior year of high school and I don't have too many complaints. It's kind embarrassing to be seen working there by people from school or random qts, so I recommend you only work there shortly for experience and try to find something better.

Location: I lived in a decent suburb so on the day shifts most of my customers were nice white grandparents and on the day shifts we mostly got drunk teenagers/college kids. If you live in Niggerville, USA, I can imagine your experience being much worse than mine.

Coworkers: Again, it really is luck of the draw. My coworkers were mostly high school kids and twenty somethings who were all nice. Any shitty or lazy coworkers usually didn't last long. My manager was a really cool guy in his late 20s. We would always talk about Pokemon and anime together and he still gives me free food when I go there even though it's been two years since I left.

Position: My boss trusted me with money so I was always front counter/drive thru. I only got yelled at twice, but the customers were clearly in the wrong and I didn't get punished. Be a cook if you really don't want to talk to normies.
>>
ex mcdonald's employee here.

I enjoyed my time there. My colleagues were stupid fucks (that's a given in any fast food environment), but they were kind and willing to help each other. Even the customers treated me well. I got free lunches and a take home meal (always ate their salads). Overall it was a pleasurable experience. Would recommend for someone looking for an easy, laid-back job.

Indian customers are pieces of shit. Blacks are direct in what they want but don't actually cause trouble. White people are petty but also polite. Asians are the best customers, often ask about stuff about what we do. Hispanics are like blacks except they aren't really assertive.
>>
>>29549707

>>
>>29549707
Quite fast, needs to be constantly moving and constantly checking for backups and rotations to ensure freshness. Fastfood businesses really value their meals for some reason, when most of the time, those who go to macdonalds don't really care about the freshness of a patty.

Also, expect alot of burns, and it's quite rare to see a girl in the kitchen.
>>
If you're a manager and are reading this thread, answer this. Why must you yell at fellow robots that are working slow because they know once they get that slow pace shit out of the way, they can be speed gods? You just make it worse in the long term and they will be an absolute chore to you.

Fuck managers. I'm going to exclusively pick jobs that have great interview managers because I can tell the kind of people they work with just the interview alone. Also, Papa John's is shit. The food is not that great (I'd rather have Domino's) and the pay increases with level ups (promotions) are absolutely awful.

Suck. My. Dick.
>>
>>29561166
Cook to manager, You know why managers push workers to keep at the pace? because everyone in the resto Relies ON EVERYONE to do their work at the expected pace. if one slacks off, it hurts the performance OF EVERYONE, Even more so in a fast food business, WHERE THE MEALS ARE ADVERTISED TO BE SERVED QUICKLY. you need to always keep in step to avoid hurting the performance of your entire team and ruining the day for everyone.
>>
>>29561338
Sure, but can you please keep the bitchy fucking attitude (and I mean that literally) out of the workplace? I never had this much of an issue at any of my 5 previous employers and I started part time working and school in 2011.

I'm not a manager, but I could get there in 2 months if I decide to stay because we're shorthanded and I'm pretty much the most experienced even though we've been open for maybe 2 months.
>>
>>29561338

There's training your employees to work a fast pace, then there's yelling just for the sake of yelling. You lower your work place morale if you're being overly critical for no good reason.

new employees know that they have to work faster, but they can't work faster because they're still learning how to do things at a normal pace. It's either you get it right or you don't.
>>
>>29561338

>work faster
>make mistakes because I'm new
>>
>>29561423
Well excuse me for having a shitty left hand because I fractured my growth plate in 3rd grade so I can't be super flexible.

Jesus christ deja vu. I've said this shit in a dream at least 4 months ago, which precedes my store opening by 2 months. Kill me.
>>
>>29561166
For anyone replying to this...

I'm realistically just bitching because I do not get along with my manager that well and I'm really close to just saying fuck it and walk out. But I got bills to pay and I need to line up actual jobs that aren't music festivals in order to leave. Even then, I'll need a stable schedule before I can say goodbye for good.

MBTI/Big 5 magic is real folks, although I'd truly just say that it's a matter of an all encompassing personality factor and not just nit-picking.
