How much money do I need to save before I can realistically start traveling the world and going "soul-searching". I don't understand how people afford to do this.

>traveling the world and going "soul-searching".

this has worked zero time in the history of mankind

$5000. Stay in hostels or couch crash.

that's arse piss, plenty of people have traveled the world and bettered the planet with insights and knowledge. And not just eat, pray, love types either. There's heaps of them. I can't be fucked looking them up right now but they're there. Heart of Darkness, there you go, a fictional book about just that subject.

Basically in the cheap countries (South America, South East Asia, China, Eastern Bloc Europe) you can last for 6 months on 10k easily.

I traveled southeast asia for 3 months on 4k. Plus plane ticket to Vietnam that was 600.

I stayed with a alot of locals and had incredible adventures with other backpackers, its an experience that i wouldnt trade anything. This type of endeavor can be very mind expanding and you learn a lot about yourself in doing so.

You can travel anywhere in the world and have a cookie cutter vacation but backpacking and being put out of your comfort zone is where the true life experience happens.

I kind of want to try this, but I don't have anyone to go with, and I'm not sure if I'm the type to travel alone.
I don't usually get along with other people.
