Try to participate in the steam friends threads. Try not to add those with a high steam level or 70+ friends since they are attention whores most of the time.

Talk with people on /r9k/ or other internet boards/forums, since it doesn't have the pressure of real time messaging like steam and IRC.
The most important this is how to get something going back and forth, as in open ended questions and answers that isn't "yes" and "no". This also branches over to finding a gf and looking for jobs.

I don't know if its a good idea. It feels like you have friends but you know that if they met you in real life you're still the same flawed person. Just makes me depressed pretending
