Remember this guy? Remember how revolutionary this was? How long it lasted and the legacy it left? He was a dancing banana man, and then somebody made a song about a time for peanut butter and jelly.
What is the state of memes now? It seems to be getting pushed more to its limits on speed (memes/hr) and generalized absurdity. The memes.. They seem to be evolving. It's sort of like that episode of Evangelion when the virus angel takes over those computers: the memes are evolving and the final stage of evolution is death. The death of memes.
We start out with banana men and condiments, and now we've reached the juncture where frogs torment white men by commanding the element of feces.. According to my calculations we have exactly 35 years before memes hit a critical velocity and transcend into zero back into the second dimension. We need to enact meme austerity measures to try to stem the tide of memes; to slow down meme evolution until our top meme scientists can figure exactly what the hell is going on. For the love of memes, please don't meme. I'll keep you updated.
This is MemeMan55 signing off for now.

this is before too many people's time here.
someone posted PBJ time in a old meme thread on /b/ and no one even knew what it was.

my reaction to the PBJ meme would go on to sculpt how i felt about 4chan = cringe. it wasn't funny or entertaining and people's sensational reaction to it made me cringe.
like i even understand Youtube Poop better, at least YTP is just random shit, the PBJ guy is so specific... "OMG A DANCING BANANA, SO FUNNY XD"
IMMA FIRIN MUH LASER, SO FUNNY.
NYAN CAT, SO FUNNY.
more like so cringe..

Oh my God. The situation is much more hopeless than I imagined. We haven't even properly nurtured our meme young to bear the torch of our proud meme past. They know nothing of the memes of old. This means that this high velocity meme culture is all they know.

HOW CAN I GET THESE KIDS TO LISTEN TO ME ANON
WE'RE HEADING TOWARDS THE MEMEPOCALYPSE
>>
>>29521035
and you seem new to 4chan.

>35 years before memes hit a critical velocity and transcend into zero
that's way too long
let's accelerate and get this over with already
>>
>>29521040
Memes, like traditions, change with time and adapt to the current culture instead of remaining adamant through the test of time.
>>
>>29521063
GOD DAMNIT ANON THIS ISN'T A JOKE
IT'S LIKE GLOBAL WARMING BUT WORSE
IF WE DON'T SHUT DOWN THE MEMECONOMY THEN THERE WON'T BE A MEMECONOMY ANYMORE

>>

this was supposed to have already happened but someone must've thrown a wrench in our plans

matrix pepe was supposed to rip a hole in reality via meme-magic

he came close, but no cigar
>>
>>29521079
Anon the world as we know it is going to end. What good will being grizzled meme vets be if it's all in vain? What sort of memeciety can we work toward if we know that the memes will implode into the second dimension.

>>29521092
W-why would memes themselves try to accelerate toward their own death? J-just what is this frog that's been unleashed on the world?
>>29521090
We've fundamentally misunderstood culture. The memes, as we've found out, are reality itself. Soon the memes will run out and we will lose our human consciousness. Everything we know will become like rocks in space. Without memes we are merely glorified sensory organs, devoid of a meme soul.
>>
I assume you're all out spreading the word of the memepocalypse. This is good, /r9k/ must at least know their fate so that they can choose to avoid it.
>>
How do we stop it?
You're so cool, MemeMan55

He's the Antimeme, obviously
He was engineered to dominate the memesphere and then cause it to self-destruct from the very beginning

ok so what your saying is that memes are being produced too fast and with too much demand that eventually there wont be any good memes? or that memes in general will seize to exist? because if so how can i help?

It's a natural part of the meme cycle
When the memes of the memesphere become stagnant and begin to outlive themselves, they, in their sickness, spontaneously create the antimeme, born from their unconscious desire to terminate their suffering and begin anew. Though the antimeme and the memes it opposes know not the reason for its creation, it follows the impetus it was given without hesitation.

There are only two ways to settle the storm- you can breathe new life into the memesphere by creating fresh memes, which, in their naive youthfulness, crush the antimeme with their jovial innocence, or you can let the antimeme finish its rampage so that new, currently unimaginable memes can be, in time, built once more from the wreckage.

The suffering of the memeworld comes from the struggle between conflicting internal desires itself. Either way, the cycle will be doomed to repeat near infinitely until we find the one true meme that can stand the test of time. The antimeme thinks himself to be this meme, it's a part of the role he plays, but he is just a pawn (although one imbued with much power).

The memes make up our entire reality. Every experience anyone has ever had, all our human existence is made up of memes in the memesphere.
Pepe intends to make himself into our lives.

WE NEED TO SPREAD THE WORD TO RETARD THE EVOLUTION OF MEMES UNTIL OUR TOP MEME SCIENTISTS FIND A CURE FOR MEME DEATH

Definition of a meme:
Any cultural entity that an observer might consider a replicator. Dawkins hypothesized that one could view many cultural entities as replicators, and pointed to melodies, fashions and learned skills as examples. Memes generally replicate through exposure to humans, who have evolved as efficient copiers of information and behavior. Because humans do not always copy memes perfectly, and because they may refine, combine or otherwise modify them with other memes to create new memes, they can change over time.

They're considerably older than All Your Base, which in and of itself is ancient. All Your Base, in turn, is older than Leekspin and Goatse, which are perhaps the oldest memes this current generation knows about.

We're old. Summerfag is now the majority on 4chan, most of Gen X and the oldest millennials moved on a long time ago. More people use Skype than IRC now. The world has irrevocably changed around us, yet we remain, wistfully staring at a past that grows fainter and fainter with each passing year.

Why couldnt have time just stopped at 2006?
>>
>>29523647
I wish it could have, friend. Everything seemed so promising and full of life back then, didn't it? The Internet was an open frontier that wasn't considered relevant enough to monetize on a wide scale yet. Everybody was equal, since there wasn't enough social network bullshit to associate names, faces, locations and income levels to IP addresses. A true meritocracy, where talent, hilarity and wisdom were the only markers of hierarchy. It was a beautiful dream while it lasted.

Pepe is already a big meme
>>
>>29521017
funny enough, I myself never found the peanut buter jellly time funny.
But there seems to be this trend of stupidity regarding memes.
Like, right now, it's dat boi.
I don't get the dat boi thing. Or that facebook meme crying laughing face.
It's like people have bootstrapped their irony, and now they actually make memes out of bad bad shit because of irony. And then it seems like dumb kids actually find it funny and spam the internet with these prescription memes.
It's so fucking weird. I see stupid facebook-born memes here, which were made by 4chan people in an ironic manner and now they've made a place among the real memes. There are almost no good memes nowadays: it's the naked banana, dat boi, caveman spongebob...
I'm starting to think pepe and gondola are the last two succesful context-based memes pre-irony.
>>
>>29521511
I vote for the antimeme to crush the memes and then crush himself. He's far too powerful now. And then, after the memepocalypse, we can have a new age of memes surge from the ages of the old, decadent memes.
It's the cycle of memes, let the old memes die. Just look at that smug motherfucker, He's not just the antimeme, he's the metameme. He already controls the memesphere, he's inside every meme in latent form.
There is a reason for him to exist, let him finish what he came to do, and let a new age of memes come forth!
