Ohooo boy, had mine about three weeks ago, Im still so glad its over. A few hours before putting on my suit and leaving I was almost shitting myself.
It was okay tho, I sticked around two or three only people I ever hung out with in school and drank a few beers to loosen up. I also made myself get up and dance, figured Ill look like much less of an autist than if I were just sitting all night. A few people laughed, who cares, Im gonna get laughed at a lot in the future anyway, Im strange and ugly. Came back home in the morning feeling comfy as fuck.
Honestly just went to make sure I dont regret not going for whatever reason but definetly didnt look forward to it. There, myb my shitty experience will make u feel better bruh. Good luck, put on the ocasional :^) face and push through.

In Switzerland the equivalent of "high school" (degree enables you to visit any Swiss university) is usually at 18 or 19, depending on when your birthday is, or later if you had to repeat a year.
You officially don't have to go to school anymore at 16, maybe that's what you're thinking of?
I don't know how it works in other European countries, but I'm pretty sure Germany has their abitur around 18 as well.
