I graduated from high school and will be heading to college later this year. I literally developed oneitis for a girl I've know for 3 years until the last month of high school.

Simple, They are biologically predisposed to find a powerful, abusive male who controls them more attractive than a weakling they can control themselves.
Socialisation and education can erode this predisposition, but almost never entirely, and more often than not, only slightly.
They're predisposed towards this seemingly illogical behavior because it makes perfect evolutionary sense. A female human's energy investment and risk to their own life in birthing child is vast.
9 months of pregnancy, placing her life at risk. Birth, placing her life at even greater risk, and after this, years of having to care for the child.
If all that is going to be a worthwhile investment for the woman, that child had better be strong. And who is stronger than a brute who asserts his physical authority over all he encounters? If you want strong genes, then a physically imposing man who you want, and an aggressive one, who rules his territory with an iron fist and crushes his enemies, is even better.
In terms of evolution, it doesn't even matter if he beats her to death once she has served her duty and given him children. By that point, her evolutionary imperative is served, and likely served well - the children, blessed with their brute of a father's genes, will also learn his brutish ways, and like him, will learn to conquer and subjugate or die trying.
This is the way of early, tribal man.
The female fetish for rape is entirely to their evolutionary advantage. It is entirely logical given the huge demands placed on them for child birth in our species.
One thing, there are many others, but one thing that a lot of guys don't get about women is that they subconsciously require dominance in a relationship.
