For me, I'm most comfortable communicating online so it's the way to go. I guess as long as you're not getting ignored and conversations are still flowing naturally, then rapport will be built. My one long-distance relationship was formed that way. It takes time but it's kind of easier to build a connection with someone online for me because online communication filters such pressures as body language and social cues out.
