"Psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen and his colleagues at Cambridge's Autism Research Centre have created the Autism-Spectrum Quotient, or AQ, as a measure of the extent of autistic traits in adults. In the first major trial using the test, the average score in the control group was 16.4. Eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher."

Pic related is my result.

Maybe im in the 20%, or im just socially inept
>>
>>29493182

Believe it or not, I was diagnosed autistic as a kid, but made it a priority in my 20's to become comfortable around people and learn to enjoy social things. Main reason was to get laid, but I've gathered some great social skills. Got laid eventually, but also made new friends.
Probably the reason my score is now only slightly above average.
>>
I got 25, that's pretty good right? It said the average is 16 so does that mean I'm more autistic than normal people
>>
>>29493182
I've taken it multiple times and always get 39. What's the benefit in a diagnosis? Is therapy any help?
>>
>>29493428

Yes.

>>29493466

Maybe, most important is to lose your fear of rejection and be comfortable with yourself. Lose your angst and you can learn to be social very quickly. It's all about flexibility.
>>
I scored 33 but some of the questions are kind of shit. For example questions about enjoying the company of other people. Im human, and crave the acceptance and participation in fun stuff with friends/family but because i have difficutly communicating and social anxiety, I avoid this. In other words, i dont idealize being alone but i prefer it over being around people because of my social ineptitude. Is this the thought process of an autistic person or do they like being alone because they simply dont care for the company of others?

I definitely have very good ears. Better than anyone I know. Also my eyes are really sensitive to sunlight so im always squinting when im outside.

Not sure if this counts as ocd but whenever i smoke a cigarette or some weed, i always have to clear my lungs completely of smoke to where i make this squealing sound. Ive done it around people without thinking. Probably freaked them out.

Did you say "I'm autistic" or did you say "I might be closer to autistic than I give myself credit for, perhaps even to a borderline".

Real autistic people can't even operate or function what-so-ever.

I don't think what you described is far outside of normal bounds.

The thing about these disorders is that they exist on a massive spectrum, many people have moments in which their actions are similar to a mental illness, and it's nearly impossible to draw the line on what is "mental illness" and what is "normal". It's really a matter of frequency and severity, and what you described is not very severe.

What you described really sounds like social anxiety and/or avoidant personality disorder to me, I wouldn't worry too much about it being autism.
>>
>>29493948
>real austistic people

It's a spectrum, from chads to neckbeards, most people are in between.
Not counting mentally retarded autists. This test is for people of normal or higher intelligence. Autists who can't function at all mostly have other psychiatric disabilities, like schizofrenia.

just because 80% of autists get over 32 doesn't mean 80% of people over 32 are autist.

in fact i'd be surprised if 20% were.

if anything this can just say that if you don't get at at least 32, you probably aren't autistic.

Yeah I get that.
I don't think I have autism desu but I joke about it. I probably have some other mental illnesses that make me less functional for sure though.

A lot of the things on there are just things I had to learn that I didn't know.

I don't like meeting new people, or having my normal routine interrupted, or doing things spontaneously, or making chitchat "smalltalk" but I've learned to deal with it.

I'd rather not do them but I can do them if I have to or if it is necessary.

Yup, totally not autistic. I completely agree with you mr Psychologist.
>>
>>29494261
I really don't know.

I sort of picked it up around 15-17 and have been working on it since.

Mostly just random bullshit like the weather (has it been really hot or cold, stormy, rainy, etc). Anything interesting that happens that you see or at a job works too (sucks for me because I had a job for 2 weeks and got fired for not being social enough even though I made a genuine effort to improve, and since then I'm too scared of being a fuckup to do more than apply a few times every couple months). Like basically any dumb shit.

Another good thing is that if you don't have much to say is just ask other people about themselves. Ask them about their work or their kids or their bf/gf/wife/husband or some person you mutually know.

I'm not very good at it but that's basically what I know. People like to talk about themselves so if you find someone that likes to talk, you can get them to do most of the work.

I don't think I'm autistic, I'm just very anti-social. I don't like being around people, I don't want to meet them, and I don't know what to say to them. I get extremely nervous whenever a social situation arises, and I rehearse what and I'm going to do and say.

I also believe I have OCD, certain things have to be done in certain numbers or orders and it's effected my life for years. I hate it, it gets in the way.

31, diagnosed autist

These quizzes are pretty shit, though, they assume a base level of self awareness for the quiz-taker to answer accurately. There were a few questions that I had no idea about and there's no neutral option, so the results will be skewed no matter what. Then there are questions like "people often tell me that I keep going on and on about the same thing," which I can't usefully answer either way because I almost never talk to people. 'Strongly disagree' would be an accurate answer, but a misleading accurate answer.
