I used to think it was the earth's rotation, but apparently it has to do with different air temperatures.
The ocean moves a lot. The air you breathe and the breeze around you is just the currents of an ocean of gas.
I've always wondered this myself but i don't think anybody has ever given me a clear answer. I think it has to do with changes in atmospheric pressure or something.
Anyway i have a question of my own. Why do they put windows on space aircraft irl? Isn't that like putting windows on a submarine?

Maybe it's so astronauts could take pictures, helping to promote public interest in the space program and secure funding for future flights? I guess it might also be possible to see potential external problems on the craft through the windows, the Apollo 13 crew first noticed their oxygen leak problem because they saw the gas venting out into space.

Submarines and Space ships are very different things.
The windows on a space ship are pretty much indestructible short of gigantic meteors, which would destroy the hull.
It's pretty much a quality of life thing, or an emergency "We need to see whats going on outside" thing if computers aren't working properly.

I don't really see the point in them doing it for that reason. It means extra calculations extra factors to be hold acountable for when doing tests etc. The whole point of sending a man out into space is for scientific reasons not so the astronauts can enjoy themselves.

I would consider that in long-term missions (months+), it could be psychologically damaging to leave a person with no windows at all. Even if there's not really a meaningfully familiar sight to look at, we still need to look at something more than walls and computer screens.

It's both. The Earth's rotation causes very general wind patterns, the sun causes more localized wind.
So the rotation is why the wind generally flows west to east, and the sun is why a particular breeze comes from a particular direction.

The Apollo program needed the windows for their operations. They needed to see out to dock the lunar module to the command module, and they needed to see out to do astronavigation. Their flight computer needed corrections done every couple of days, and the measurements needed to do this had to be taken manually by looking out a window with an astrolabe.
