The way I see it identities are bad because of our psychology. You'll get rewarded for your social status instead of your posts here. Something like the Halo effect and horn effect. But I am sure there are more cognitive biases that come into play.

Trips should be uses for a spesfic thread/series of threads where knowing who the OP is
I.e. They are doing something or a thread asking them questions

Identities make conformity also more likely. If you have a controversial opinion you might not state it if you think it will lose you social status.

In my own experience, even on boards with a username where I am otherwise anonymous, I feel uncomfortable with some of my opinions.

Here I might get called out for my opinions but I wouldn't have to worry about my other opinions being discredited in a way.

Identity breeds conformity.
4chan is literally the only place I can express my true feelings, without it I would have no place to discuss things without the need to conform or get "upvotes".

Trips just make this place gradually more like reddit/social media, which is terrible.
