What does it mean if someone leaves a bowl of sugar out in the corner of a room or windowsill? I live with my grandma and recently she put a bowl of sugar out on the windowsill and has been leaving it there 24/7, only checking on it every few days. When I asked her about it she said it's "an experiment" and told me not to touch it. Even when my aunt and I tried telling her we might get ants from that shit she just repeats "it's an experiment" and to leave it the fuck alone. Is this some kind of folk magic bullshit or is she actually going insane? That sugar has been sitting there for 2 weeks.

She used to leave a cherry pie on the windowsill every time I visited her and wouldn't let me touch it. On her deathbed I asked her the reason and she told me that every time someone was murdered in her village the women would bake a pie and leave it out in their memory. She then told me that she felt I was murdering her golden years whenever I went near her.
